The use of "pre" when the word means to do something in advance anyway e.g. pre-order, pre-book.

How about that popular double-negative:  irregardless?  :P

Not really an expression, but my pet peeve is when people use bigger words to say something, when smaller ones might do better.  It just feels like the person is showing off to me.

That makes me crazy!

My hated phrase is "duly noted."  Probably because my @&*$! of a college roommate used it constantly.

Ooops!  I use that one!  :P
I sure it only bothers me when used constantly by my in-laws!  ;D

Threads like this one are always dangerous!  ;)

Definitely! I say a lot of these all of the time - "can't be arsed", "at the end of the day", "fair enough", "as you do".  :-X

Oh and sorry, Elynor, but I say "bless" quite a bit too.  :P

I can't stand corporate speak....and i'm surrounded by it in my workplace.
'managing expectations', 'drill-down', 'value-added', 'win/win', and the dreaded 'think outside the box'....oh and 'growing the brand', ACK!!

Uf, I HATE those!!!

ETA: When we were in the US everyone at my niece's wedding kept telling me that I had an accent. I could NOT figure out what on earth they were talking about, but dh thinks it's my inflection and my figures of speech. Some of these phrases are probably big contributors to my "accent". LOL.

Of course you do!!  I can guarantee you that I use phrases that bug the snot out of people, they simply haven't been mentioned yet! ;)

Yep, 'exactly' is on my list.  Sorry, Genau.  And the next time I hear 'synergy' I'm going to gnaw a finger off, and not my own.

I hate when I know I'm using an expression that is annoying and yet can't seem to stop doing it.

My father has repetitive expressions such as 'My point being...', and 'dollars to donuts'

And has anyone said "I tell you what", as in 'that car shure is purty, I tell you what'

Years ago, we had a family acquaintance who had a unique expression. He'd insert, "a thing on it" into sentences at random. We have no idea what it meant or what he meant by it. I can't remember his name, but my mother and I always called him Mr. ThingOnIt.

"Why don't y'all come out to the a thing on it patio and I'll get Loretta to fix some a thing on it iced tea."
