I hate it when people write "awwwwwwwwwwwwwww" to denote a gush of sentimentality e.g. when seeing a baby, kitten, puppy etc, when they mean "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh". Lately I see the Daily Mail has taken to using the one with 'w's, which I always thought was an Americanism.

Awwwww.  That's just awwwwful.  :P

Why should it be Ahhhhhhh?  That seems kind of arbitrary to me.  What's the difference?  Why does it matter?   Thinking about it I think Ahhhh is wrong.  That's more the sound you make for fireworks or um, I don't know.  But Awwww sounds right to me.  Actually, the more I think about it the more I think that I'm right and you're wrong.

Mine is any word for vomit other than the word vomit.  I hate all the others and they make me feel queasy.

I was thinking the same thing which means you're definitely right!  ;D

I always thought "awww" was just awe lengthened. I reserve my ahs for surprise ("Ah! I'm on fire!"), understanding ("Ah, I get it now.") and approval ("Ah yes. That's right.")

Me too. The only other word I like is "hork" which just makes me giggle.

Completely agree with Mindy. The sound associated with sentimentality as described is 'awwww' and when I use it, I definitely don't mean 'ahhh'.  I use 'ahhh' to denote relief, such as 'ahhh, I really needed that drink' or even understanding ('ahhh, okay, now I see what you mean').  I use 'awww' to denote something I find something particularly sweet, cute, or considerate.

And I hate all words for vomit INCLUDING the word vomit.

Hey, I don't LIKE the word vomit but if someone has to use such a word then that's the one I prefer.

I don't know which I prefer, if I HAVE to use one.  Isn't there a medical term for it?

See, I prefer and and all other terms.  The word vomit is just too... yuck.

Google says emesis, or regurgitation (the latter in reference to newborns specifically).  I'll stick with my euphemisms. :-X

I agree, the word vomit is awful.  Ick!

I like 'emesis'.  Yes, that will be my word of choice from now on.  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

But emesis is the noun. Is there a medical verb for "to vomit"?

Phooey, you're right.  A little more research (ugh) seems to point to vomit as the appropriate medical term.  Sorry, Geeta.
