You're more or less right on that. I could get into the really boring details of it all, but I won't. There are formulae and all sorts of nitpicky rules, but in essence a re-voiced animated product is more qualified as a home production.

The Tudors is a very strange co-production. Mostly financed by Showtime, it has additional funding coming from Ireland and Canada, and is filmed in Ireland. It's aired in the UK on BBC and is taken against the imported programming allowances. I'd have to confirm with a friend who studies co-productions, but I think the Beeb had an opportunity to invest but chose not to for political reasons.

I'm not sure why you say that the show is filmed in Ireland, perhaps a series of them were, but when I did watch the few begining shows that I watched I did see the Bolsover castle, several in the Southwell Minster, and I recognized them because they were areas in the UK I'd visited several times.
So I am not certain that all the shows were, or the entire sets were in ireland. Especially because I noted monuments that were actually in the show that belonged to the UK.

Both IMDB and Wikipedia state that the show is filmed in Ireland. The show page on IMDB lists 5 filming locations, all of them in Ireland (Dublin, Dublin Castle, Kilmainham Jail, People's Gardens and Ardmore Studios), but it could be that some parts were filmed elsewhere, but are not listed on the site.

It goes both ways.  Watching Thomas the Tank Engine with North American accents always sounds a bit odd to me.

Yeah, that was strange when I first saw it in the US - for me, the 'right' voice for Thomas the Tank Engine will always be Ringo Starr, because I grew up with it .

In addition to what ksand24 noted, I say that the show is filmed in Ireland because several colleagues of mine are studying co-productions and The Tudors is a frequently mentioned case study. It's an interesting history because in some cases the production company was refused access to film at UK landmarks and had to use some in the ROI that were nearly identical and use set dressings to further the likeness.

Also, Ardmore is known as one of the best studios for set-based filming, with a very high degree of realism in their productions.

I know these things. TV is what I do for a living.

Well if the likeness was that similar then that is interesting because I remember one of the things in perticular that I was like "Oh thats at the Southwell Cathedral" heh. Thats a bit sad. Thanks for that.
