you ladies are much more organised than me. we're already married but doing a reception that's more traditional wedding with out the ceremony. Sept 5th, so I still have time but all I have is a dress and the place booked lol. My dress is half paid for and ordered at least. So much to do, too little time!!

But you've got nearly three months more than I have! To be honest, three months ago I hadn't done much except the big things that absolutely positively had to be booked. I've found that all the details seem to get done in the last couple of months. Don't panic yet!  :)

Hi ladies...it's been a while since I last posted.  It looks like everyone is getting a lot of wedding planning done.

DF and I found my engagement ring the weekend before last....it's so amazing.  We also purchased both our wedding bands...now we just need them engraved. :)

We just booked the wedding facility for 11/22 for the evening...Save the date cards have been ordered and will be sent out later this week.

We are going to have outdoor wedding and indoor reception.  I am expecting around 100 guests.  The place we booked used to be a family home with several acres of land with tall trees, lakes, etc.  They converted their home into a place to hold weddings...so beautiful!  The facility provides everything, except photography...I have that consulation set up for later this month.

I've purchased my wedding dress and picked out the bridesmaids dresses and shoes.   I also purchases my rehearsal dinner dress, my bridesmaids gifts and my wedding shoes.  I am in the process of picking out invitations and favors for the guests.

I need to meet with my wedding coordinator at the facility to finalize linens, order my cake, finalize the menu, and order flowers...just waiting to hear back from them to set up an appt.

Cella, I'm from Houston too :)  If you are having the wedding there, I can give you names of several photographers that I know well, and would feel comfortable giving you the contact details of.

If you are going to live in the UK, that is great, nice to know that there more Texas girls over here :)

Best Wishes,
Teri

I got my shoes at The Shoe Dept for $10. They were satin and the heel ended up sinking in the ground and getting stained. I was so glad I spent so little on them and could just throw them away. I didn't pick my hairstyle until I was waiting for my practice appointment. They had a book in the reception area and I found one in there. It will all come together!

Yay, another texas girl!  ;D

Sure I would love some suggestions for photographers as I haven't picked one yet....chances are I will go with the one the facility suggested.  I have a consult with them later this month.  The company is called Evoke...heard of them?

I will be moving to the UK....most likely end of this year/early next year!

Cella, our wedding was in Houston, too!  Man, I remember all the crazy wedding planning and looking for photographers...I remember looking into Evoke, and the reports were positive from what I can remember. :)  I can PM you the name of the photographer I ended up with though, if you like- she did an amazing job!

Cella, get used to people asking you if you have a cowboy hat when you move over, LOL. I don't have a Texas accent, but because the word "ya'll" slips out sometimes, I get ribbed for being a cowgirl. The English love cowboys, so I just go with the flow. David thinks I should get a cowboy hat for the next portrait he does of me for our site, lol. Not likely.

When you meet with potential photographers, make sure you get to look at a couple of complete weddings, not just the same things they have on their website. We can only put so much content on a website, so traditionally what you see are our personal favorite images,, rather than a complete wedding, which will usually take place in all kinds of different lighting situations. This way you can see how capable they are in low light situations, versus very bright sunlit, outdoor weddings, which are actually very challenging.

I have not heard of Evoke, but there must be thousands of photographers in Houston, which is why it's good to get referrals. It's always a good idea to meet with more than one photographer, usually 3 will give you an idea of the style you want, and if you can get on with the photographer. You will spend the most important day of your life with that person, so you want to be sure you can stand to have them around, LOL.

Here's the link to a friend of mine, Mike Fulton. He is very well known amongst the photographic community, and he does workshops for other photographers all over the US and is a keynote speaker at WPPI. He's one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the US. The guy has skills ;) Feel free to mention you know me if you do contact him. He also has curley whirly fetish, LOL. I can't say enough wonderful things about him, I've known him since I got started, about 5 years ago. He and his partner, Cody, are the funniest two guys around.

Mike's girlfriend, Suzy also does weddings on her own, but also shoots sometimes with Mike and Cody if she isn't booked. She also is a speaker at many photographic conferences around the US. The girl rocks :)

Also, Jesus Tirso, of Decca Photography. Another great guy, and very talented photographer.  http://www.deccaphotography.com/

All of these are amazingly talented, and the nicest people you could want to meet. I know them all personally, but also have great respect for their work professionally.

I'd even throw my hat in the ring, because it would be a great excuse to go to Houston and visit my two daughters, lol. But unfortunately I have commitments that month.

We have to have a Texas gathering when you get moved over!

Seriously, any weddingy advice you need, just ask,  I do about 30 wedding a year, and have seen it all! LOL

Teri :)

Springhaze, so are you from Houston too?

Terri, thanks so much for all the great info...I must admit I know nothing about planning weddings and chose to do it the most simple route, which is to find a facility that provides everything...this way I have less running around to do.  It's a bit tought to work full time, take care of my daughter and plan a wedding on top of everything else I usually do.  I am glad that you suggested that I look at more than 1, b/c to be honest...I was just going to meet with and book Evoke, since the facility recommended them.  I will try to set up consults with a couple of the people you suggested, as well.

I get a bit overwhelmed when I think of all I have to do with the wedding planning, visas and the move...I tend to be a bit overzealous and do things sooner than I probably should.  I have 6 months until the wedding and don't have much left to plan.

Edited: I forgot to mention...that is so funny about the cowboy hat!  I've been in Houston since I was 7, but I don't concider myself a Texan...I was born up North and my parents are from Italy.  I also don't have a Texan accent, but my DF still get a kick out of when I say y'all!

Lists are your best friends!  :)

We're planning the wedding and working on a house at the same time, so I can completely relate. I have a wedding binder and a house binder, and just yesterday I got some stacking in- and out-box thingies!

I totally agree about lists.

Lists help you realize how easy it all is, they help you stay organized. :) Remember that it's just a big ol party, where you get to put on the prettiest dress of your life, and get jewelry! That's all it is ;).  Oh, and you get to eat cake!

I love my photographer! He's from New Zealand and he's so nice!! I have a meeting with him on Thursday and he's going to do a mini-photo session. He also has a friend who's a makeup artist, so she's going to have a go at making me look pretty. Hah.

A friend is doing the photos, and she came to the church for a light test last week.

I'm having my final dress fitting on Wednesday! Wheeee!

Still no dress :(  It's 'nearly done' apparantly.

And after the photographer thing on Thursday, I have a trial run with my hairdresser.

Not done hair yet.  Don't know how I want it.

Then on Friday I have a meeting with the restaurant about booze.

Lunch sorted, evening reception still arguing.

And on Saturday I'm meeting with the cake lady (she's my cousin).

Mum has made two thirds of the cake.  I need to get a 10" cake tine from somewhere.

A busy weddingy week!

I am SICK of all this.  Can you do the rest for me, please??

 ;)

Vicky

I'm just having mine the way I normally wear it, but with a sparkly wedding hairband in it. I'm not a fan of big elaborate up-dos - I want to look like meeee! (but an extra nice version of me, if possible!)

I am SICK of all this.  Can you do the rest for me, please??

Where should I send the bill?  ;)

My friend is getting married the same day as Chary and Victoria and as far as I know she still doesn't have a dress. I think I'd be a little worried at this point!

I am getting a little concerned.  I haven't seen it, and if it turns up and I don't like it and it doesn't fit, then I need to get it adjusted or find a new one.

I also need to sort my bouquet and get my best man to try on his kilt and come to the hire shop for the rest of his outfit.

I *think* that might be it actually.
