Oh I forgot to ask..do you know how long it takes them to set your mobile phone up to be able to text updates?

I sent a text to confirm my number awhile ago, but nothing has happened!

What is Twitter? A UK friend sent me a request to join, but I never responded. Is it just like being on Facebook? Seems redundant if so, since we are already contacts there.  ???

It's not really known yet here in the States (though I was on facebook through another UK friend about a year before it became popular here, so maybe it is coming!)

I had a twitter request on facebook. Are they related?

I have no idea if Twitter is related to Facebook, as I don't have a Facebook, but it's a way to make short updates about your day that your friends can read. You can even send text messages to Twitter while you're out. It's actually lots of fun, and for me, saves on making a ton of one-liners on my LJ!

I'm just starting on there. www.twitter.com/jmb252

Don't think there are many around Weston on there, but it's pretty big amongst NY media types.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

FYI... the +44 number listed to update from your mobile is actually billed as an international number. I think it's Jersey, or something like that. I found out when I sent several texts to update my Twitter account and then got billed 25p per text on my mobile bill. I just assumed +44 was a UK number that would be charged as a normal text. I've opted to update from the website on my phone instead.

I've actually found the email reply I received from 3 regarding my bill as I questioned it...

I've checked the usage on your account and have noticed that you've sent messages to some international numbers.  There's a charge of 25p per message for sending messages to foreign mobile networks as they're not included in your monthly allowance.  The numbers that you've been charged for are 00447781488126, 00447624801423.  I'd also like to inform you that sending messages to numbers in the Isle of Man, Jersey or Guernsey will be charged at international rates, even though you're using the +44 prefix.

Maybe this is something commonly known to most people but I didn't have a clue you could dial a +44 number and it be international.

Must be your neck of the woods- I'm in the SF area and it's big here. Of course, the headquarters are here too. In fact, there are many third-party applications supporting twitter now and it IS quite an Internet phenomenon. It's just that texting is bigger in Europe and Asia (and tech-savvy US regions).

Is it rude to follow someone on Twitter if you don't know them?

I've had a few people start following me and I have no idea who they are!

There's a lot of Twitter spam out there...people who check for the most recently updated twitters, then add those people so you go to their twitter page and see the spam for whatever website they're pushing.  You can block these people from following you.  click on "followers" and there's the option next to people to block them.  It will give you this whole "are you sure you want to block them?" message, and just click yes.

Also, some people search for twitter key words, and if you've twittered about something they like, they might have added you that way.

I just signed up (as anniee1968) and I have to say... I don't really get it.  :-\\\\ I put it on my facebook. I can't figure out how to use it with Livejournal.... I don't know, obviously I'm missing something key.
