Thanks!

I'm hoping my 3rd is my last! I made really silly mistakes on my second one so hopefully this one will be enough to pass!

I failed my first one and passed on my second, as well. It was the Corsa's fault... it has that stupid cuff you have to lift up and slip into reverse and sometimes you don't realise it's still in first and you accelerate and WHAM, you hit the curb! HAHAHAHA. I can laugh now, but I was traumatised when it happened.

Don't worry about things, and you're definitely not a loser. I have a co-worker who took his test three times before passing and his partner did the same thing. You can do it!

Your not a loser! I have one friend who took hers 6 times before she passed and another who took 7! Its a very hard test. Just try to relax and not psyche yourself up too much for it. Whens the big day? Good luck!  :)

I've done it twice! Once when I was visiting in 2003 and then on my test... stupid stupid Corsa... don't let me car know I've said this, even though I hate the cuff we've bought a Corsa because they're so economical :) haha

This is my fear...I have NEVER driven a manual and the times I have tried to learn have ended miserably :(  Does anyone know how to get a provisional license and how long does it last?

And you're not a loser!  Those darn tests can be difficult and confusing!

I only drove automatic in the states as well so learning to drive a car over here that was manual, on the other side of the road with all those crazy round-abouts made me feel like i was starting from scratch and was really hard. I felt like all I knew how to do when i started was steer  :( But, I learned and it took me about 6 months so just dive right in and do it is my advice.

To get a provisional license is really just a case of filling out a form, paying a fee and posting your documents including your passport to the DVLA.  Mine took about 3 weeks to come but i think they say up to 6 weeks it can take.  Then get yourself some shiney new 'L' plates and hit the road  :)

You don't need L plates if you're within 1 year of moving here.  After 1 year, you do.

The provisonal license lasts forever.  Well maybe not forever, lol, but I think its a long time.

You don't need L plates if you're within 1 year of moving here.  After 1 year, you do.

And after 1 year, you are also subject to the other conditions of a U.K. learner, including being accompanied by a "qualified driver" who is over 21 and held a license 3 years or more.
