Yeah when the olympics first began they had a little story about him and his home and his dog and how all he does is swim, eat and sleep....I was shocked lol where does it all fit!?

That was a cute story...loved his dog!! I think I've read that he burns something like 4000 calories per training session or something like that.

We are a nation that has a government -- not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the earth. Our government has no power except that granted to it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed.
Ronald Reagan

In questions of power, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution. - Thomas Jefferson

Hurrah for GB's first EVER Olympic medal!  It might've only been a bronze, but it's finally the break-through into the USA/ex-Soviet/Chinese dominance in gymnastics.

They said it was the first ever GB medal in gymnastics during the competition (just watching it now), but it's not actually true - the commentators got it wrong :P!

The GB women's team won Bronze in the 1928 Team Final and Walter Tysal got the Men's All-Round Silver medal in 1908 too... so it's actually not the first medal ever, but just the first medal in a very long time :).

That's strange, the US announcers got it right! You'd think if there was a mistake it would be the other way around!

I know - I felt so bad for Anna Pavlova!  But the German girl - wow!  And I was really pleased for the Korean girl as well.

She was the one who got 0.000 on her 2nd vault because she didn't wait for the green light.  Pretty harsh, but at that level, you'd think they'd not make those sort of mistakes?

Okay, my mistake about the "first ever" gymnastics medal...I was just repeating the commentators!  Weird that they got it wrong, too :-/.

That's what I thought...but I think they meant 'in this form'.  It seems that this event wasn't in the gymnastics back then, but things like shotput and tug of war were!

That's what I took it to mean.

I missed it but DW said the BBC was parading around the Olympic park the cut out statue of Phelphs and getting people's reactions.  I'd have loved to see that.

I understand Phelphs and Katie Hoff are members of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club in Mount Washington as well as a couple other sites in north baltimore.  That's right by where I used to go ice skating in my youth!  I wonder what kind of a waiting list they'll have for there if they haven't already got one.
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround

I was talking about the judging! I did feel badly for Anna, though. I was happy for Oksana!

I enjoyed Sunday night's NBC interview with Michael Phelps and his mom.  He talked about being bullied as a kid.  I wonder if that makes winning 8 gold medals even a little bit sweeter, prouder, better.   :)

I saw that...it was such a sweet interview especially when he talked about his mom. I saw this photo online ...the look in his eyes and hers is just so sweet. You can really see the love between them...so sweet.
