Oh man! Did I miss synchronized diving?  I LOVE that.  The husband is hogging the TV.

I think it's over now. We are watching Peppa Pig now though so I don't know. :(

We got bored with synchronised diving so have 'red buttoned' to the men's weightlifting.

I saw some of the men's gymnastics yesterday morning, so they are not just showing stuff that we might win.

I don't think the BBC go overboard with the Human Interest stuff. I saw the interview with the rower (I think it was a rower) who's wife died, and it is relevant, as are injuries and recent illnesses, because of course it takes a lot to get over something like that and bounce back to get to the Olympics.  It wasn't too schmaltzy at all, I thought it was okay, and didn't detract from the actual event at all.

As for the politics...I still don't like the fact that an evil opressive regeme get to host the world's largest PR event, and I hate the fact that 'Chinese Teipei' gets referred to  - It's TAIWAN for Gods's sake! - but now it has started I have stopped with the cynical anger, and am just getting drawn into the sports.

Oh, and while I am obviously wanting GB to clean up, I am rooting for Phelps to get his eight.  That would just be amazing!

Thank goodness for Sue Barker & Gaby Logan, that's all I can say.  For some reason I had it in my head that the cheeky sports chappie from BBC Breakfast (Chris something) was going to be doing the Olympics coverage so Adrian Chiles was a HUGE disappointment! I didn't even know he was a sports journalist, he presents the One Show, the second most patronising show on TV. (The first being Richard & Judy, of course).

Well, they've redeemed themselves because Matt Baker is commentating men's gymnastics and we LOVE him.  :)

I enjoyed watching the men's gymnastics. Felt really bad for the top rated Chinese gymnast who made a 'fatal' error and won't be qualifying, poor guy. On the other hand, LOVED the swimming, both men and women. Go Phelps and Horray for Dara Torres!!!! How AWESOME that she's 41, on her 5th Olympics, and STILL swims faster than the 'youngins'.

We've been watching an amazing 17 year old Chinese guy lift over 20 stone to win the weightlifting, and are now on the basketball.  China are coming back, unexpectedly, against the US.

Vicky

The Chinese athletes are AMAZING, truly!!! They've worked really hard, so I'm happy for their success. I can't help but cheer the US, but I'm enjoying the sport very much. There are usually surprise winners in the Olympics, which is exciting. Can't wait for the gymnastics to heat up and the relay racing too.

Well, the British gymnasts have had some success in the qualifiers - both British men are through to a final each: Louis Smith has made it to the Pommel Horse Individual final and Daniel Keatings is through to the All-Round Individual Final :).

Unfortunately the Women's team missed out on the Team Final by 0.75 points, but Beth Tweddle is through to the Asymmetric Bars Final and 16-year-old Beckie Downie has made the All-Round Individual final :).

Just as I wrote that the US team stopped playing games and walked all over the Chinese!!!   Whoops!

We have now switched over for Charity Shield highlights!  And then there is cricket on!  So many choices!!!!

I have a feeling I am going to get no work done for the next two weeks.

I love watching the Olympics!! The opening ceremony was incredible! DB says he doesn't like watching it, but I told him to get used to it for the next couple of weeks.

I don't think the US coverage is too bad. They show a lot on NBC prime time, but they also do the less popular sports all over their other networks. Sure they mostly show the US teams, but I kind of figured it was like that for any country, mainly showing their own athletes.

I haven't watched much today but I do keep checking in for sports I"m interested in. The good thing about the Olympics this year is that China is 12 hours ahead of us, so we get to watch more of the events live. I hope Michael Phelps does well too.
