Football Season 2008/2009 starts today!

Hooray, hooray!  The season starts today!

 

I will be starting off with a little bit of Barnet v Chesterfield, then tomorrow may watch the Charity Shield or Nottingham Forest v Reading on the telly, and then next week the Premiership begins!

Is anyone else looking forward to, once again, having their life revolve around The Beautiful Game, as I do every year?  Any tips for promotion / relegation?  Any transfer gossip to discuss?  Or are you a newbie to the game some like to call 'soccer' and want to know more?  This is the footy thread for the year.  Let's try and start some good discussions.

Defo glad to see it start again.  Predictions?  Three horse race as per usual.  Not holding much hope for Hull or Stoke staying up.

I'm in shock! My son who has been a devoted ManU supported forever, has (almost) decided to switch allegiances and is supporting Villa!  (it is our closest team and we all really like the manager)

Our life revolves around footie and sadly, just before the beginning of the season, DS broke his leg and will be in plaster until November, might get back on the pitch by new year.  Not the beginning of the season I was hoping for...

my team lost and I've been grumbling about it all day. 

ManU has more than enough fans, support Villa Mrs. Pink.   

Mrs P, I think that is wonderful!  Kids have a habit of picking the good teams when they are young, then switching to local teams when they get a bit older.  I hope he stays a Villa fan for life now!

My (second) team (Barnet) threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 3-1.  Not a good day, though our goal was a peach.

Whiteknight - who do you support?  Not Leeds I hope 

Predictions - perhaps the Prem title will be a three horse race but I think the likes of Villa and Pompey could provide shocks.  And I think that Hull could stay up, they have made some canny signings this summer.

I am still bitter that you took Tresor Kandol off us, then didn't pay us for him, then beat us in a pre-season friendly, and have now palmed him off on loan to Millwall, where he only went and scored on his debut!  Not good!

 To be honest Vicky, he was pants for us and only played a few decent games, having said that, it was typical he scored for Millwall in the first minute 

I seem to remember seething this time last season as he got two for you on his debut!

A good start with a goal in first 5 mins, then end up losing 2-1 and have a man sent off for an awful looking tackle that could have broken the guys leg.

Vicky, glad to see you were going to watch Forest, did you end up watching the game?
I was there, I have a season ticket!! We should've won, 2 or 3 nil but we looked so much better than last year, and you would never guess we were playing a team that just came from the premiership!

We need to sort our strikers out though. Come on you Reddddddsss!

Steph, I was only going to watch it on telly but we ended up watching the Olympics instead, sorry.  I do hope Forest come up though, I used to like going to the City ground.

I am off tonight to Barnet v Brighton in the first round of the Carling Cup.  Should be miserable.

Yea Vicky! I'm glad to hear that about Forest! We looked pretty good, so hopefully I won't be miserable every Saturday for the next couple of months! If you're ever at the City ground let me know, I still owe you a beer or two !
