KLM Airlines

Has anyone ever flown KLM? Would you recommend them? We're thinking of taking them to Tanzania, it's a 13 hour flight and I'd like to know if they'll be any good on a long haul flight.

I have never had any problems with them. I used to fly regularly with them twice a month for about a year about 10 years back between London and Amsterdam. I have no idea what the long haul situation would be like. Schiphol is a lovely airport, as far as airports go!

I've flown KLM to the Middle East and Africa with no problems. My former boss used to fly with them all the time and recommended them to me.  I agree Schipol is a nice airport.

LOVE THEM!  My grandparents used to fly them from Ams-Nigeria and always had great flights and I just flew them from Japan-Manchester and it was one of the best flights I have ever been on.  Great veggie food, wonderful in-flight entertainment (we're talking LOADS of movies and tv and music!) and comfy seats :)  I would definitely recommend them to Tanz...What are you doing there?  I loved Dar and Zanzibar-you MUST go there...the night food market near the ocean is amazing, huge crap claws for less than 50p and sugarcane juice...yummy!

I us KLM / Northwest (their American counterpart) when I visit Scotland from the US.  I have never had a problem and recommend them.  My good friend has lived in Tanzania the past 3 years, do you need any advice on that end?

cheers guys. We've booked our tickets. I am so excited!!!

We're going backpacking for a couple of weeks. We'll be doing the regular things: serengeti, crater, dar, zanzibar. If you have any hotels or safari companies you'd recommend, I'd be very interested to hear them.

We stayed in a beach town called Bagamoyo which is about an hour or so from Dar, if I recall correctly.  http://www.bagamoyo.org/bagbeach.htm  I think that is the one we stayed at.  Right on the beach, good rooms, don't remember it being so expensive.  I should mention that this was all part of a study abroad program with Uni so it was all a lump sum!  We also went up to Arusha (flew) and saw Mount Meru and from there went to the Crater and stayed in a swank hotel.  I don't remember the name of it but this is the name of the reserves we went to Mikumi Wildlife Reserve, some 170 miles or so west of Dar-es-Salaam; Saadani National Park about 60 miles north of Dar-es-Salaam.  I think the name of the hotel in Zanzi was La Plage de Mer?  It was in Spice Town.  Go to the Africa Hotel and buy a bloody mary-best one I have ever had!

This is the website to my uni's study abroad page as well...I will try to contact my old teacher and ask him if he remembers the other hotels we stayed in!

I hope you enjoy it...I really love Africa and Tanzania is one of the most amazing, beautiful places...Trying to convince DH to move to Zanzi one day :)
