Certificate of No Impediment wording

I need to get a Certificate of No Impediment for Sweden and when I spoke to the US Embassy in London today they said they would do a sworn affidavit for me as part of their notarial services but I needed to provide the document.

Just wondering for those that had to do this, what did you put in the document?

I read my fiance's declaration given to him in the UK.  I went to the embassy, wrote out that I was born on (insert birthday here) I was never married and had no impediment to marriage.  I planned to marry my fiance (insert name) on the date of 8-8-08 on the island of Thassos and country of Greece.  It cost $30.00 and then it had to be apostilled at the foreign consulate in London.  Pretty straight forward, now I just have to get everything translated back to English and finalized.  Best of luck and hope this is of some assistance.

ack, I hadn't even thought about this - does everyone need one of these certificates to marry in the UK?

And also, does anyone know if Witnesses in a UK civil ceremony can be foreigners? I'm thinking about asking my brother, who's a USC.

It is not needed in England and Wales, not sure about Scotland, but I think pkmac is marrying in Sweden.

Yes you can have people from overseas as your witnesses. One of ours was a Kiwi.

Yep!  Our very own persephone from UK-Y served as a witness at our civil ceremony in England (and her name is forever enshrined on our marriage certificate, hehe.)
