visa says male but I'm not
« on: May 19, 2004, 07:23:04 PM »
I was checking our passports before we fly out Sunday and I've just  noticed that although my passport itself says Female, the visa within it says Male.

As silly as this is, will it cause any problems?

Oh, my God!  That's my worst nightmare come true!  With all of our planning and worrying, something totally out of our control happens.   :P

Have a safe flight, a smooth entry, and good luck in your future together.
When I find a funnier sig than twistedncynical's, it will be here.

Definitely call the consulate!

When l got my visa they had put husband instead of wife and they cancelled it without prejudice and then issued another one!

So if you're near the Consulate they may want you to come back in and have it changed!

I'm in Georgia and there's no way I can make it to NY before my flight leaves Sunday.  I can't believe I didn't notice it before, I think I was just so happy I'd gotten it back.

I'll try to call today and see what they say.

I got my Spousal Visa through the NY UK Embassy and when I had it in my little hand it says

" wife of"
and then has my own name!  ;)

Dopes hehe They said at the time that it wasn't going to be a problem and indeed it hasn't the last time I came through customs.

I hope you get yours sorted out! Let us know, yeah?

It isn't likely to be a problem unless you get stuck with a real jerk of an immigration officer when you come through the airport.  But chances are they will just "stamp you in" with little or no comment.

If you are going to be doing a lot of traveling, with many re-entries into the UK, then it's probably a good idea to have your visa reissued next time you can get to NYC.  It takes only a few minutes if you're one of the first people in the morning.

I really do not understand why the Consulate isn't more careful when they issue these things.  Mine had a rip down the right hand side of it which partially obscured the visa number.  The IO at the airport was very nice about it when I came through, but still, they had to have the forgery experts look at the visa and I was standing there sweating bullets until they came back and said it was all right.  Believe me, I had it changed the very next time I was in New York.

I had no problems with it whatsoever.
