Route 66.....Axminster
« on: August 30, 2008, 08:53:27 PM »
DH and I stopped in Axminster this morning to do some house-hunting,( I've got a new job in Dorset and the "commute" from South Devon is getting to be a bit much), anyway we popped in to the River Cottage HQ, had a nice wander around the shop, bought some beautiful bread, etc, etc. We then headed down the street and just a few doors down was the cutest little cafe called Route 66.."A true american taste", of course we had to check it out.  The menu looked really good, things like meatloaf and mashed potatoes; pancakes; hamburgers with american cheese...looked like proper diner food.  We didn't eat, we had just eaten breakfast, but I did chat with the young woman who owns the place.  Unfortunately, I didn't get her name, but she's lived in the area for about 9 years and moved to the southwest from Houston.  So, if anyone is out and about it might be worth stopping in for a bite of old fashion american grub....her iced tea was great!!!

Oh, we'll be driving from Devon to London next week... just not sure we'll have time for a stop! :(
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Thanks for that, Barbara. We are in Dorset visiting my mother-in-law in  now.  Might have to try it out before we head back to Devon.  Sounds more authentic than Route 38 in Cornwall.  Good luck with the house hunting!

Sounds great!  Will have to remember that when I am in that area.  Worth it just for a good iced tea!  ;D
