They have Quorn crumbles.

I have never seen soy creamer but you can use soy milk if you are not too fussed.  I never liked soy milk in coffee/tea - it just seems too watery to me. :-\\\\

Ooh! This is promising! I use it bc I like half and half, but it's pretty high in calories. Milk/soy milk is not thick enough really.

And quorn crumbles! Yippee. I like TVP but it doesn't work in all situations.... coolio! :)

And just as a sidenote, I find that the Uk seems to be much more veggie friendly (heck all products are even labeled "Suitable for Vegetarians" when they are!) The US is starting to catch up, but there are mainstream chain restaurants (not fast food) here who still have NO vegetarian entree at all offered. Not even one. I didn't really find that in England this summer.... No problems eating (which was so welcome after having been in Spain and France just before!)

Food products may be labeled in the UK, but the vegetarian/vegan items are still behind the US, in taste and in selections available (IMO).

I don't really think many take-aways here are very veg friendly (Indian food is the exception), unless you want chips and cheese or cheese pizza.

Agree with Yael, it's pretty dismal unless you are in a Thai, Indian, or Italian restaurant.  I hate going to lunch at work with the team because I always get stuck with the crap entree that no one would ever order otherwise.

It might depend what city you are, in Brighton every other restaurant is a vegetarian/vegan one and we often go to vegetarian restaurants because they are so good with work, even though we're all a bit carnivorous! Japanese restaurants are also good for vegetarians :)

There are lots of threads on veggie food on here...do a search on 'Cauldron', which is IMO the best fake meat brand, and you will see all of the different topics.

London is great for vegetarians.  There are a few fantastic veggie restaurants ('Mildreds' is by far the best) and actually I think the veggie choices in supermarkets is excellent - I have seen it growing year on year.  I became veggie in 1999 when things were pretty dire, and now they are great.

I have seen boca in health food stores, and places like Planet Organic.  Oooh, just had a craving for boca ravioli!

I'm veg, too and spent some time looking around.. they have lots of Quorn products there (we have a few available here in the states, but they have much more!!!) They are delicious!


Yay! I love the Quorn meatballs, but they're so hard to find here. I'm sure I'll be just fine if there's some Quorn around. :)

Yeah when I was in Dublin, they had Quorn pepper "steak". OMG delish. I have been wanting those again since! I have recently discovered the chicken bites here that you can use in stirfries or fajitas.

I just bought some extra boca ground today because of this thread! And some morningstar black bean burgers! :)

Vicky- I went veg in 95 and it's amazing to see how many products are available here now! Pretty mainstream in the states now (in terms of finding products in supermarkets at least). My first veggie cookbook was the Linda McCartney "In the Kitchen" and she was always referring to all these cool products (like TVP) that you could NEVER find here! I'm glad to hear it's all that and more these days in the UK. ;)

I SOO miss Boca over here!  I agree that the Quorn products aren't bad.  Also I have come to enjoy the Cauldron prducts too.  Beats Tofurkey anytime....(yuck).

it is soooooo much to be veg in the uk than in the states. i'm visiting my family in the chicago suburbs right now. if i have to eat one more side salad and order of garlic bread as my main i think i might go postal. we're still considered hippie freaks by most of mainstream america, it seems. ::)

I think eating out is very hard in the states, but even the Wal-Mart in my tiny Western PA town had at least ten types of veggie burgers, three types of veggie chicken nuggety products, tv dinners, and bagged fake meat.  You must be able to find that stuff in stores near Chicago, but if you can't cook for yourself I agree it is hard.

I also have been searching for quality fake meats in London.  So far I have found the Tesco and ASDA store brands to be tastier and cheaper than Quorn.  The ASDA fake meatballs are as good as the ones I used to get in the US.  I also highly recommend Quorn "Southern Style Burgers" if you enjoyed Boca chicken patties.

It was far easier being a veggie in Boulder than it is here.

TONS of delicious veggie restaurants and food products.

Even in Denver, too.

Which suburb of Chicago?

I guess I was lucky.  I lived very close to Wholefoods.
