Speaking of peppers....
« on: September 01, 2008, 03:33:04 PM »
I find it nearly impossible to find peppers to make chilli rellenos.  Anything that resembles an Anaheim or Banana pepper or even a Poblano.  They need to be fresh, not canned or bottled or soaked in anything.  Any ideas?

I ordered some New Mexico chilies from them a couple weeks ago so I could make green enchilada sauce.  They were shipped out the same day and I got them 2 days later in perfect condition.  They were fabulous!

I've noticed that some UKYers use the words 'peppers' and 'chillies' interchangeably, when to me, they are 2 different things...   ???

I think it depends on where you grew up.  We called them chili peppers to differentiate from sweet peppers.

We called them chili peppers or just chilis.  I'd call peppers - 'green peppers' or 'red peppers' or in India, 'capsicum'.

I think that they are just different varieties of peppers (chile peppers, sweet peppers etc.) so some people call them chiles and some people call them peppers, but both words are technically correct (think Red Hot Chilli Peppers :P)...  as phatbeetle mentioned, what you prefer to call them will likely depend on where you grew up.

Growing up in the UK, the only 'peppers' I came across were either as part of 'salt and pepper' or as red or green sweet peppers. I actually had no idea that chiles/jalapenos were actually referred to as peppers until I moved to the US (at first I thought they were separate things).
