We will definitely have to plan something :)  And I am saving my first trip to Betty's to go with you!  I can't wait!!!

Hi there,

I live in Knaresborough, just a shout away from Harrogate (I'm from
New Jersey).

Have you started up the book club yet?
If so how is it going? Any room for new members?

Any other US goings-on in the near future in our area (besides
Election Day?? ??? ???)

Cheers!
Eileen

Hi Bugmq - We're just starting the book group up!  Planned meetings for the first Saturday of each month...the first meeting (!!!) is Saturday November 1st at 3 pm-ish, and the book is Petite Anglaise.

I think we are planning to discuss forward plans at the first meeting - for picking the next book selection(s) and locations.  The idea is to rotate the location around in Yorkshire - perhaps to Leeds, York, Harrogate, etc - depending on who's participating & where they live.

Come on out, Bugmq!  :)

(And swelch2 - let us know if I've left anything out of the details there!)

That is perfect!  I was at the GNR yesterday ALL day and came home exhausted so thank you MrsR for answering so promptly!!!

I think we will meet at 3 or half 3 that day and the cafe I have chosen is Milan's-they have lovely coffee and cake and even food!  Pretty yummy all around in my opinion :)

Please come out Eileen!!  It will be great to have you :)

I'm sorry, but I won't be able to make our first meet up due to other plans already being scheduled and I think I am abroad the first Saturday in December, too - maybe in the new year?

I hope everyone has fun!

Oooh!  Where are you going in December?  I am living vicariously through everyone who is traveling now that I have no money :)

We will keep you updated on the book choices and take pictures!  DH will make a book club website as well, if no one minds!  We can list all the books we've read and write reviews and such...or something.  It will give me something to do :)

Hope that you have a great time on your trip, Mapleleafgirl72!  I can't wait to finally get to meet you :)

We are going to France, as there is a festival on my actual birthday that has been recommended to me by two French tutors and it gives us an opportunity to practice French.

Have fun with the big read, everyone.

Just giving this a wee bump, as our first book club meeting is one week from tomorrow!  :D

(I'm about 1/3 to 1/2 way through the book, but it's an easy read!)

I'll have it with me on my flight tomorrow night! (Yes... that flight, the final flight, the move flight).

Now, whether I can concentrate with my two cats in the cargo hold below... that's a whole 'nother question.

See you all next weekend.

I am almost finished!  It is an easy read...exjerseygirl-you should have no problem flying through it!  The chapters are short and it is funny, you find yourself drawn in!

Can I get a show of hands as to who will be coming?  Thanks!!!

I don't think you can see my hands from there?

I need to see if I can get a hold of a copy of the book - my library system only has one copy and it's currently overdue and in the hands of a housebound reader, so I'm not likely to get that one before November 1st!

Hmm, I have a copy in Harrogate for our library here...Would it be possible for your library to request it and you get it in time?  I am also in Leeds on Tuesday if you would like to meet up and take it off me there, as long as you bring it back!  ;)

And no, I guess you can't see a show of hands Mrs. R! hahaha  Good grief :)  It was a long day yesterday and I was trying to be funny :) :)    ::)
