The reason for that is because in fibre optic wires, the light bounces along the cable from one side to the other, with very little light energy lost to the surroundings (called 'total internal reflection'), until it reaches the end of the cable and emerges as light - so it doesn't matter where the end is, or where you cut it, all the light will come out of it at that point :).

I think you just blew my mind.... you should go on Eggheads with me, you could take the Science category....  ;D

Just don't try it with telecommunication fibers, or one cut strand is likely to leave you with several thousand disgruntled telephone users!   ;)

Just how annoying the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" is.  >:(

Good music though.   :)  Also, the scenery reminds me of home.  I can't tell if its Georgia, Tennesee or ...

Ah.  It's Georgia.  I'm so very proud.

Good God, WHY?!  ;D

Today I learned that I am nearly out of wine and can't be bothered to go into town and get more because the vintner isn't open on Sunday and the stuff in Somerfield and Co-Op is pants.

Thank crunchie we've got that bottle of brandy and that Krusteaz powdered apple cider stuff for hot toddies. ;)

Ah, I see. If you have your insurance through Tesco, too, you get Clubcard points for that, too.

That After Eight thin mints taste an awful lot like York Peppermint Patties - only the white minty creme filling is thinner than with Peppermint Patties.

I noticed that, too.  I somehow thought they would be more like the girl scout thin mints.   :(
But they are still very tasty....

Aren't they made by the same company?

After Eights are made by Nestle, but I am told by DH that this wasn't always the case.
I don't think York Pappermint Patties are made by Nestle, but I could be wrong...

It may be the obvious and they are made by "York" but who are they owned by? ???
I think that After Eights were made by Rowntree's originally.
OK I just confirmed this. I also found that since Nestle took them over they have changed the ingredients. They use to be dairy free but now Nestle uses coco butter. They blows me away because I didn't know that coco butter had anything to do with the butter as we know it. I love the mints no matter.
Another update. I thought York Patties were from York, England but no. They are from York, Pennsylvania and the only English connection is one time they were owned by Cadbury but that operation in the US was taken over by Hershey in 1988.
What a sweet subject ;D
