Automatic Driving Test
« on: September 10, 2008, 04:23:38 PM »
Has anyone taken an automatic driving test?

If you have, when you stop at a light, do they expect you to put the car in neutral, pull the handbrake, and take your foot off the foot brake?

Hi - I took my auto test in December and yes I did all that because my instructor told me I had to. And I passed with only 2 minors so I guess he was right:-)

That's odd. My instructor taught me to pull the handbrake at a red light, but not to put the car in neutral or take my foot off the brake. However, it didn't come up at all during my test. Anyway, I passed on the first time!

Good luck to you, Dar!

I was told that taking your foot off the brake is part of what an "advanced driver" does. If you'd gone for an advanced driving test, it'd be part of it, but not for the regular driving test.

The rationale? The brake lights "dazzle" the driver behind you.

Same here, on all points!

Good luck, hon! :)

Reading the comments about the British Driving Examiners and their methods I think I would disqualify them. They don't live in the real world!
How long ago did they drop the requirements to start the car with a hand crank? ;D
