Eastenders.  Seriously!  People who don't have to work that much, lots of sex, being able to jaunt away to America with nothing, not even my purse.

:snort:
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

I'm still trying to figure out where they actually got all the snow in the movie The Holiday, as it was filmed in my town and I've never seen that much snow here ever ;D (I wish there were though!)

OMG I love that movie! I was wondering about the snow, too, since I've been told there's not that much snow in/near London in the winter!

I watch that movie whenever I get sad about not being in London yet! LOL Is that house they built for the film (Kate Winslet's character's house) still standing? I saw on the DVD that they built it specially for the film....

No, not a lot of snow here at all.  Usually just a dusting, which is enough to close down the town believe it or not. (They don't know how to deal with snow here ;) My husband didn't go to work one day in fact a few years ago because of snow)

I found this about the house.  It was beautiful!  (Not in my town though, I believe most of the street and store scenes were thugh.)

Thanks, Stacey!

But what did they mean in the article that Jude Law doesn't actually show up to your house regularly? I thought that was part of the bargain if I move to the UK! I may have to rethink this whole move.

:P ;D

As someone pointed out in the comments, it would really be such an easy business to recreate the house and open a B&B!

Jude has only been over to mine once, but The three Hugh's have been over many times :P ;)

I agree with MaryKate.

Dent - you grew up in the UK right?  So, what tv shows/movies give an accurate portrayal of life in the UK?

I recently saw Gavin and Stacey and thought it managed to capture a good deal of the look-n-feel of life in Britain. I agree about Shaun of the Dead, and would add Spaced (the TV show made by Pegg & Wright prior to their film ventures.) Black Books is a good one. Lately I've been watching the show QI, which makes me nostalgic for a certain kind of good-natured banter that you just don't hear over in the States.

Wait, Hugh Grant (swoon!), Hugh Laurie (swoon!!) and who's the 3rd one?? What about Colin Firth? I'd like to meet him, too! I'm definitely going to get to know you (and camp out in your front garden) next year! HAHAHAHA!

If only you weren't kidding.  :\\\'(

The places I've lived and the most accurate representations thereof...

So Cal: Friday

Where in Southern California did you live?!?  I don't think there is a single TV show or movie that truly can represent such a diverse group of people!

Unless, of course, you were joking.  In that case, carry on. ;)

LOL!  Oops, I think I made another Hugh up in my head for some reason, or was thinking of Aussie Jackman.  But Colin Firth is always invited over, that is for sure :P

Colin Firth used to be the man, but after watching the Beeb's 2006 Jane Eyre recently for the first time, Mr Rochester has taken Mr Darcy's place.  :)

I definitely wish my life was dr. who and have since I was ickle.

I agree with Stacey on the snow thing.  I think I've seen snow maybe once a year, and evne then only a light dusting.  Big disappointment.   ;)

I told my husband that if the tardis shows up, I love him and all, I am GONE!  He got slightly offended I think.....

I also agree about the snow.  I guess I was expecting much, but it is so disappointing.  I'd much, much rather have snow then damp.

It was half joke, half serious. I grew up in Long Beach, and lived and went to school in bad neighbourhoods of it. So Friday does have something truthful about those areas.

Hehe! I like the way you think, Stacey  :D There is a reason I've seen Bridget Jones' Diary (1 and 2) so many times. It ain't for Renee Zellweger's lovely british accent! Have you seen their hand imprints at Leicester square in front of the Odeon??? That was a fun find this summer!
