Thanks for the heads-up on this.  I have tried to read the book, but it didn't capture my imagination.  I've ready others of Hardy and didn't have a problem.

Hoping the dramatisation will spur me on to finish the book.

Yes! Thanks for the reminder (hopefully better luck with this than Lost in Austin!).
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Not good? Uh-oh. I've downloaded the first two episodes and was looking forward to them!

I hate to admit it, but it's the only Hardy I've ever read.  :-\\\\  I did love it, though!

It should be on iPlayer within about half an hour of it ending on BBC - so by about 10:30pm!

Chary, avert your eyes now, spoiler alert .....

Sorry, but kneeing Mr Collins in the bits totally blew it for me.  Miss Price claims to be an Austin fanatic, read the book oodles of times, yet fails to understand the necessity of social graces in society in that era.  The lippy and the odd faux pas I could believe.  Knee meet nuts?  Way too OTT for me.

I guess I just don't mind it.  I like the modern twist and the chutzpah Amanda brings to the story.

But like I said, everyone has their own opinion. ;)

I'll watch it... I'm a bit of a Thomas Hardy groupie.

I'm on the fence, I thought it might be charming but I think actually it's just a bit cheap. I love P&P so much and thought an updated one would be cool but at times I find it almost too embarrassing to watch, but I do think Amanda can be really cute at times. I'm not so bothered by the historical inaccuracies and inconsistencies as it's meant to be fun, but i think the production values are generally poor and the Darcy just seems a bit 1D and not gorgeous enough!
However, I think Alex Kingston is great as mrs.bennet, she's prob my fave mrs.bennet and isn't as crazy over the top like so many others.

All in all I think I'll stick with Keira if I'm feeling in need of a quick fix (i find her Darcy SO gorgeous!) or the old bbc one if I have a whole afternoon lots of tea and some chocolate

I missed the start of Tess  so it's one for bbc iplayer :) I like Hardy (aside from mayor of casterbridge, forever ruined by GCSe eng lit exam!) alot and could do with a new costume drama before I go over to the darkside and watch that Duchess film
