The UK bramley stuff wont' do at all for baking.

I agree with the above. If he bakes a lot, definitely make your own. And keep the baby stuff to hand for emergencies! :D

Thank you so  much!  I am thinking we will just make our own and get some emergency baby food just in case :)  I knew I would get great suggestions from y'all :)  Thanks!!!

Mrs. Robinson, yes, he is British but for some reason he thought Asda would have it...something about it being part of Wal-Mart :P  Who really knows what he was thinking!

I've found small jars (not as small as Bramleys, but still small - maybe the size of a small jar of Hellmans?) of natural applesauce at Asda - their own brand.

I just make my own, don't have it very often but it's easy to make and soooo much better than those little jars of bramely apple sauce.

If you're feeling especially lazy there are a lot of microwave applesauce recipes out there.

Any good cooking apple will cook down nicely for a smooth applesauce.  Eating apples will be better for chunkier sauces.  Its lots of fun to experiment with different types of apples to see what you get!  Its also fun to make pear sauces, apple-pear sauce, apple-rhubarb sauce, apple-cinnamon raisin, etc...

Yummy--apple pear sauce!  Mixing all different types of apples is good as well.

Chiming in late, but I LOVE making my own applesauce.  I do it in big batches so I don't have to do it often, and seal it in canning jars.  It's dead easy, even for a lazy ars* like me!  And it works great for baking.  I find the british applesauce to be more like apple pie filling without the cinnamon - no good, as you don't want sugar added to applesauce you use for baking.  I'm guessing you use it to replace the fat in recipes?
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

DB and I are going apple and pear picking today! I think I might try to make some apple sauce, apple-pear sauce, or pear sauce depending on how motivated I am!  ;D

Here's some fun for you UK-based folks:

Lucky you having an apple tree in your back garden!

Where's the recipe Rachee posted? I'd love to make some!

I don't think I ever used apple sauce in baking, but in any case, I'm not sure that it's available here as we generally understand apple sauce.  ;)

How about making your own?  This recipe sounds simple enough.

I just made this applesauce with cooking apples from the tree in the garden.  At this very moment I am eating it hot over vanilla ice cream and it is soooooooo good!  It tastes EXACTLY like American-style applesauce!!
