I liked 28 Days Later, not so much 28 Weeks Later.

I think the Japanese films are ok, but why do they always have to end with no redemption at all?

I didn't really like The Descent either, or the Shining.  But I like horror I swear.

How about Chronos?  I loved that when it came out and I guess I was ahead of the times.  Every loves del Toro now.

Who else?  Dario Argento?  I thought his films were scary but goofy too.

Warning:  I met the original Wicker Man, not the remake.  I haven't seen the remake, but I shudder at the thought of it.

Silence of the Lambs!
The Thing

Maybe Carrie?
(it was scary at the time, not sure about now)

I still think the 70's TV version of Salem's Lot is pretty scary.

I didn't like 28 Days Later, and along the same lines, I found I Am Legend to be a real downer more than anything else.

I haven't seen all of the Thing, but I think the rest of them have stood the test of time pretty well.  Salem's Lot make-up is terrible, but it is still good.

Silence of the Lambs!

This reminds me...  I saw Silence of the Lambs the same week I saw the re-release of Spartacus, complete with the Laurence Olivier/Tony Curtis bath scene.  I didn't know that Anthony Hopkins looped Olivier's dialogue (the original was lost), and I almost jumped out of my seat when I suddenly heard Hannibal Lecter's voice!  Eeek!

I love to watch horror movies and the slasher ones are my favorites.  But the one that had me leaving the theatre shaking was Misery.

I think any Stephen King books made into films are very scary!!  Carrie is a classic!

Also Cujo, Pet Cemetary, IT, Tommy Knockers..ect..

And who could forget Cathy Bates in MISERY!!!! I pooped me pants to the scene with the log!!! ( thats all I am going to say..incase someone hasn't seen it yet! )

'Misery' is a masterpiece!! My all time scariest is still 'Silence of the Lambs'.
We are a nation that has a government -- not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the earth. Our government has no power except that granted to it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed.

Seconded!  There are few things more horrifying than watching a perfectly normal (ha!) man go insane in front of your eyes.

YIKES! The Shining is my all time scariest movie. But it was the two twin girls that freaked me out more than the guy going insane. *shudder*
