Itching
« on: September 24, 2008, 12:22:53 PM »
I have very itchy legs, for some reason which I cannot fathom.  Itchy to the point that I scratch them so much I get bruises from scratching.  DH saw them this weekend and thought I was being beat up or something!  Any suggestions on what to do?  I suppose I should have got some Benedryl cream when I was in the US.  :-\\\\  I did get some Sarna cream but it doesn't seem to have helped much.  I have also tried Aveeno extra itch moisturizer but again not really helping.

I guess I should go to the GP at some point.  :P

Go to the GP. If it's just your legs that are itchy, it could be any number of things (an allergy, the result of something that came in contact with only your legs, even a strangely presenting case of restless leg syndrome).

Was there anything that set it off? Had you done anything unusual?

Nothing really.  I have always been a bit like this but lately it's become really bad.  I suppose I will go, thanks.

Are you using new Razors / Shaving Cream / Hair removal cream?  I used a different brand of razor that I am normally used to and the little aloe strip above the blades made my legs itch like crazy..it took me a while to connect that little strip as to being the problem.

The aloe strip on my normal brand doesn't effect me at all  ??? odd.

No, same as always!  I don't even shave my thighs and that's where the worst of it has been.  Same clothes, same detergent, same sheets, etc.  I really don't have a clue.  DH thinks it's because I have dry skin and I don't use moisturiser so I have been doing that but I really never have, so I don't see why it's gotten so bad lately.

Is it super dry skin? It could be change of season but if it continues I would see a GP. I agree with Jen. Hopefully you'll get some relief soon, i hate itchiness!

Try Sudocrem.  Its a nappy rash cream but its really good as a itch reliever.  Its got quite a few uses.  Most men I know use it after they shave as it soothes their skin.  I have used it when I get prickly heat and it really soothes.. :)

Could be, I don't know!  It is dry, but I didn't think it was that bad.

Hope it gets better for you soon.  You have been fluish recently right??  Your immune system maybe a little low so you could be more susceptible to things...

Have you slept in any hotel bedding recently?? sometimes their detergent they are washed in can be a little harsh.

Maybe some Anti Histamine would be good for you too.

Yes, fluish a bit but nothing too bad.  I am over most of it by now.  No hotel bedding or anything - it's been like this at home and in the US at the husband's, so nothing really different.  Anti histamine would be good, yes!! Am on the phone to my mom now who's a pharmacist so will see what she thinks...thanks!

Did it start after your flight?  Dry air on plane can start it off.

Could be eczema, if you've always had it but now its especially bad.  My ex had eczema really bad on his legs (and on his arms and neck and everywhere else, but he's an allergy machine!) and it drove him crazy with the itching.  It had periods of flare up where it would be bad and not.  It got so bad he needs to use script steroidal cream as its the only thing that will touch it, but he was able to have some luck with aveeno oatmeal cream and an oatmeal bath, as well as putting a thick layer of benadryl cream (do they sell anything like that here?) on, and then covering it with bandages.
Itching sucks.

one more thing, try drinking more water and see if that helps! hydrates the body, is good for the skin and flushing out ickies! :)

Yes, I'm wondering about eczema too, actually.  That's really the only thing I can think of at this point!!  Am going to try to go to the GP next week. Thanks everyone!
