Tell me more please.   :)

Because if you land in at Heathrow from Dublin..you land in terminal 1 and your passport does not get stamped with a official UK stamp and the Home Office will not accept the stamp you get in Dublin...It causes problems when you apply for a ILR..as they say you have no proof of entry date into the UK...

There have been loads of discussions on here about it.....here are a few..

Dublin has a tendancy to not stamp your passport upon entry...so there is no "proof" of your actual entry date into the UK. People have reported in other posts about no one even being available at the IO stations to stamp you in.

Shame, because Aer Lingus does have some cheap flights.

Are you flying Lufthansa by chance? I flew them into Munich before B'ham. In fact, where will you be living in the UK? (You may have answered this before...I don't know)

Hmm, I guess Jane. Whoa...sorry, didn't realize I had responded to two different people. Oops.

But yes, I think Calamity_Jane mentioned flying into Germany...so that part was directed at her.

Technically, its the stamp upon entry to the UK (not Dublin) that is your "proof".

Yes, because even if you get stamped in Dublin, that is not proof that you have entered the UK because the Republic of Ireland is a totally different country.  If it had been Belfast and you got stamped then that would be fine.

yeah I have been a wreck and feel completely stupid and miserable... I think it's just a multitude of things, making that mistake and yeah I actually was asleep at the wheel, had just woken to the phone call and I am NOT a morning person.

heh I was trying to keep control and not get upset etc... til today my Mom called and asked what was up and BAM! the floodgates opened and ... I felt better.

I have time, I am waiting for the email back from the consulate on the off chance... I booked through Vayama.com and have looked on there to make sure there are flights available after the 24th... and there are, tomorrow I am going to get a quote on changing the flight... which means I have to tell my dad cause i used his credit card (am credit card free so... ) which means I will have to deal with the old crumudgeon heh  [smiley=behead.gif]

I got too much crap going on in my life in addition to the visa and the move,  it's unreal at the moment  ::)

I appreciate everyone on here so much, I truly can't imagine where I would be without ya all!

It will all work out, and I won't fly out via Dublin! heh Is Frankfurt OK? LOL

As long as your not landing at terminal 1 at Heathrow..you should be fine.

I think Lufthansa flies into Terminal 5 now..but don't quote me on it  :)

Ok, now I'm worried, DH, DD, MIL & I are heading back to Cali for Thanksgiving, United has now moved all operations to Terminal 1...am I missing something here? I think I should be OK because my original entry stamp was Terminal 3 back in February.

I think that you should probably just fly directly into the UK.  You need an entry stamp to the UK, not the EU.

Just change the flight to a different date, fly into the UK, and you will be fine.

where is the 'head exploding' smiley! LOL

I will figure it out... urgh... cost seriously is an issue tho... I know it has to be done right for the FLR and ILR stuff... /sigh

I am not flying into Heathrow, I am flying into Birmingham (UK not Alabama and dang my mom would have blown milk out her nose if she had been drinking it when I told her about the birmingham alabama skyline on the birmingham UK flyer that went out a bit ago!)

Passport control operates in the UK when coming from all EU countries except Ireland, so flying in from Germany you should be fine. When I first came to Scotland I came via Amsterdam and got my stamp at Edinburgh.
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012

If at all possible I would strongly recommend flying directly into Birmingham from the US, rather than from Europe.  I have been on flights before where they simply do not stamp your passport when you come in/out of Europe, even though it's not supposed to happen.  The only real way to be sure to avoid this is by flying directly into the UK.

Nice to hear that Superl99 =) makes sense really. I will do research as best as I can on all aspects of this before changing my flight etc... I am sure the consulate will just tell me 'suck it up' heh but I still have my fingers crossed.

We had originally said I would go the 24th cause my DF works at a school and has from the 25th through the 2nd off so when I got the email we were talking about booking the flight etc... but his dad's yank woman is flying in on the 21st and he was whingen about having to come pick me up 3 days later (4 hours of driving back and forth for each trip) and I honestly assumed they would make it from date of approval so I was like ok whatever...
