Biometrics twice?
« on: September 25, 2008, 11:37:35 AM »
This question may have already been asked, but I wasn't able to find it on a search.

I applied for and was granted my fiance visa back in the states and obviously had to do biometrics.

When I apply for FLR(M) after getting married next month, will I need to attend another biometrics appointment, or do they use my information based from my previous visa application (less than 6 mo ago)?

On this page..

It says that from November 25th, anyone applying for (FLR)M has to attend a biometrics appointment at either Croydon, Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff or Glasgow to have your photograph taken and your fingerprints scanned.

It's stupid, because you've already had them done!

It's not stupid.  It is logical.  The point of biometrics is to keep tabs on immigrants and cut down on fraud, and that means taking the biomentrics before you come in, and again when you are here, to make sure that you haven't given your documents to someone else.

If they only did it at the point of the visa application outside of the UK it would defeat the object.

It does make sense and I was pretty certain I would have to. Now I wonder if it would be beneficial to apply for my FLR(M) before or after 25 November, when all this takes place with the ID cards. (Not that I would look for any reason to intentionally pay more money.)  :P

Also, can the FLR(M) be completed online if I am doing it in person? I only saw a PDF form to print and fill out in block capitals, but nothing online as my fiance visa app was.

You can't do it on line - technology hasn't reached as far as the Home Office yet!

I'd apply as soon as you marry, before the process gets more annoying complicated and expensive.
