So, I should just not get a flight via dublin? :(
« on: September 26, 2008, 01:14:47 AM »
I'm getting pretty bummed reading about this. My hubby and I are on a tight budget and we wanted to book a less expensive flight for me when I get my spousal visa. one ways are like 800+ dollars whereas the dublin one was like 380 dollars! I just don't know what to do. advice please! Will I really not get stamped?

Have you checked Continental?  You'd maybe have to fly out of Newark instead but I got a one-way connecting through there and into Belfast for about $430 WITH taxes!  And flying to Belfast is usually very expensive.

Also, when do you want to fly out...and, if you don't mind me asking, what is your budget?  I'm used to searching for the cheapest flight possible so I can help you research if you like :)

Now I'm wondering....flying into Belfast, as actually part of the UK unlike Dublin, is ok in terms of getting the necessary stamp, right?

Lol, I always seem to have those kinds of fears with those airlines that aren't so mainstream (in this part of the world anyway).

I read on another board that several people just went with returns because the ones they found were cheaper and had no trouble going through Immigration.  I personally would fear they thought I'd be returning and not planning to "live permanently with my sponsor/spouse" but they said it was no issue whatsoever.

I think I read somewhere on the Travel & Transport area that AnnaontheMoon had problems with Air India...

My husband flew in via Dublin ( we booked tickets before we knew about this post but discovered it a few days beforehand ) and we were all prepared to ask and demand for his stamp.  The police even got involved at one point...but still no stamp,,,

NONONONONO!  Do not use Air India!!!

They cancelled my flight with only 28 days before it and I *still* haven't gotten my refund!  (It's in a thread in the travel board, or you can check the entry on my blog: http://www.blog.beccajanestclair.com/2008/09/freak-out/.

Seriously. Just say NO to AirIndia! They're canceling flights all over the place.

I do however, recommend cheapfareguru as a booking agent.  The guy I've been dealing with (Sam) has been really good with trying to get my refund processed and I know it wasn't his fault.

You live in CT? What about flying out via Toronto?  I'm serious. One of my friends was looking up flights from YYZ to LHR and the one-ways were around $400.

What? I booked my flight through Dublin. What does this mean for someone entering with a Spouse Visa?

You need to get your visa stamped upon entry to the United Kingdom.

There are many threads on this, so do a search.

Moonfaery, why not wait until after our meeting with them on Monday?  As mentioned in earlier threads, I am going to the Home Office on Monday for a big meeting on what to do about people comming in through the Republic.

I'll be advocating UKY's position that fiance, spouses, and students arriving through the Republic need to have a landing interview and get documented.  Leah (yes, Leah) has already written them a letter about it, and this meeting is a follow up.

Hopefully, we'll be able to convince them to put in a voluntary control point while the big roll out evolves.  So try to wait until Monday.

Just a suggestion.  Who knows?  Sometimes you go to these things and bugger all happens.  You can't hardly even stay awake sometimes.  Other times you can get things done.

Thanks.  I know that was probably a stupid question but better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks, I see now that this is a problem. It just seems so.... well I am not going to say what I truly feel about this. Just when I thought I knew everything I had to about this something else comes up.

Garry, good luck with the meeting.
