Most useful website on the net for UK housing.
www.rightmove.co.uk

Only been out to the bars in Macclesfield, but thought it was a nice area.  Hubbys parents live nearby there.

Hi,
I can't give you any true tips about Macclesfield but I have heard a lot about it. I just want to advise you to do your research about location. Ask questions, from what I understand Macclesfied is a town of two halves. I work at a school in Cheshire and some of the students come from Macclesfield. The town that they know and live in, is one I would be wary of - it is one of 'yobs' 'gangs' and crime. They are boys who are in trouble themselves, and other boys in the school are afraid to visit Mac. However, I don't want to worry you, my husband who assures me that Mac also is full of footballers and affluent people.

Just want to let you know you that you want to make sure you check out the area where you want to live in different ways.

Best of luck in your search, maybe we will see more of you on UKY.

I think from my limited experience of the are Macclesfield is indeed (like a lot of other places in the UK) an area of two halves, like other areas in Cheshire, its quite affluent in some parts, and its quite provincial and rough. I work nearby in Wilmslow, and I really like Cheshire. I live in South Manchester and I am a big fan of the area!

Matrix, don't worry! I lived in Mac. for a few months also with work in 2005 (so things may hve changed a bit). Like any town or city, of course there are less-desirable areas, but there are plenty of good places also. The area has a lot of professionals who work at Astrazeneca, so it's not all yobs etc (though the Yates Winelodge in town can get a bit hairy on weekends!) Its quite a down-size from London, and so wherever you live you'll be able to commute by car fairly easily.

The very exclusive place where the footballers live is called Alderley Edge by the way - nice restaurants and shops and a great place if you can afford it!!
