Taste Bud Orgasm -Apple Dapple Cake
« on: September 28, 2008, 01:48:21 AM »
http://www.southernplate.com/2008/08/apple-week-begins-todays-recipe-apple.html

I made her version, but using Splenda Blend white and brown sugar so my dad could eat it.

If you search the internet there are various versions of this cake and I think it would be great with some spices added in or vanilla, but it is lovely just as is.  We were making apple butter and still have a ton of apples left and this is a good way to use them!

Looks lovely, so long as you can do it without the pecans.  Me no likey pecans!

I don't think it would hurt it if you leave them out or sub in walnuts or similar.  It's a very moist cake.  Cut up the apples like she shows in the photo.  I used a Red Delicious apple as that is what we have.

I have a very similar recipe and it is truly a delicious cake.  I add cinnamon to mine, just my own addition to the recipe and I also bake it in just a large rectangular cake pan as I hate bundt/angel food pans as I find getting the cake out in one piece a pain.  I just leave the cake in the pan so the yummy toffee like icing is on the top.

Ooh, thanks for the recipe and thanks for the link to that blog... I love food blogs!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

No problem!  Food blogs rule!

I do like this cake and thought it would be good as a spiced cake too.  Will have to experiment with it.

I am particularly chuffed because even with Splenda Blend cakes never come out as nice as the full sugar versions and this one is great.
