Sour Cream?

Do they have sour cream here?  If so, is it called sour cream?

You can get two kinds. 'Soured' cream.....and creme' fraiche......the latter, to me, is more like the sour cream we are used to.. IMHO

I agree too!  I bought the "soured cream" the first time...let's just say it's like really runny, unflavored yogurt.  Blech.

LOL!!!  I stand in Sainsbury's making fun of it in the "American Section"!  Richard is always like, what's wrong with it?  It's not Soured Cream, it's Sour cream!!!!  Crikey!  At least their is Salsa!!!

Likewise!  It amazes me some of the things they slap a US flag on and call American.

As far as the sour cream/crème frâiche thing, I never cared much for US sour cream, but quite enjoy the crème frâiche.  It doesn't seem as overpowering.

The one that gets me is the way they label those prepackaged "pancakes" as American...um no we don't eat pancakes like that.  The other one was an "American" pizza at ASDA I think it was.  Can't remember the toppings, but remember thinking I've never seen a pizza like that in my life.  I'm sure we have some stereotypical British foods here that are nothing like the real thing. ;)

It wasn't a tuna and sweetcorn pizza, was it???  :P 

Just kidding, I think the Brits take full responsibility for that one. 

Also, I love how English Muffins only exist in the states, over here they are just 'muffins' and they don't have nearly as many nooks and crannies. 

I don't know how this ended up under 'sour cream.'

That may be more to do with the style of the base than of the topping; the American style having a thicker base that the more authentic Neapolitan pizza.  Until recently we were more accustomed to the Neapolitan style in this country.

I absoloutly heart our sour cream. I have it with everything. Salads, jacket potatos, dip for crisps and chips (chips n fries!) as a sauce for a nice pasta. I just love it. Anyone had it on toast? Its lush.  ::)

I actually like the "soured cream" I get at Sainsbury's.  I find it's just the right consistency for what I need.
