Consulate E-Mail- Confusion
« on: September 30, 2008, 06:40:51 PM »
Hello all!

I was hoping you guys could help me out with a few questions I have in regards to the processing time for a spouse settlement visa.

I am in California, and submitted my visa by post via FedEx to the LA Consulate. I know from tracking my package that it arrived and was signed for at the Consulate yesterday. Today I recieved two e-mails from them:

The first one stated that they'd recieved and began processing the visa, and to allow 12 weeks for it to be issued.

The second e-mail arrived about half an hour later saying the same thing, except to allow 5 working days for it to be issued.

So once again, the embassy has successfully confused me! Bravo.
I've heard that they take anywhere from 5 working days, to 2 weeks, to 12 weeks, to 6 months. I've heard people get them the very next day!

Can anybody tell me how I'm supposed to interpret the e-mails, since they were sent within half an hour of eachother, yet give me two very different timelines? You all know I'd love to take the second one and ignore the first! I don't want to get ahead of myself, though, and be disappointed.

How long did it take you to receive your visa?

Has anybody else submitted theirs to the LA Consulate? How'd it go?

Thanks in advance for your help, guys!

I also did mine through LA & Fed-Ex.

I received a confirmation email that it was received from the Consulate and a phone call on the same day for questions about my application from the Consulate. And told over the phone that my visa was being issued. And a confirmation email about 3 hours later stating that they were issuing my visa.

Granted this was back in February, from what I've been seeing it will take current application up to 20 business days.

Best of luck, You're from Yuba City right? I was from a bit north from there.

Hopefully all moves swiftly for you.

Thanks for your input; I'm hoping to fly out by the end of October, so I'd like my visa within two weeks maximum.

You'll have me answering the phone regardless of caller id now, I'll be so paranoid!

Ignore the e-mails, and assume that it will take 20 days from the point of receipt.

Is there any way that we can sticky this fact, as it is being asked so much at the moment?

I got the same two emails! My Visa was approved about three days after I got the "12 week" one, so I think you're probably okay :).
Good Luck!

Oh wow, I would love to have it approved by the end of the week!

What was your guys' reaction when you had your visa approved? I'm not sure if I'm going to jump up and down screaming or burst into tears hysterically.  :D

I burst into tears and called my husband and just kept saying 'I get to go home! I get to go home!', mind you I had already lived in England for 6 months as a visitor and so for me it was really getting to go back home where I belonged.

Fingers crossed you'll hear something very soon.
