But how do we know who you will find interesting?

Don't know.  But I received a *GREAT* heads up in a PM this morning which I would have certainly missed.  Someone apparently keeps their ear on particular pipeline, and then made the connection.  It's a pretty significant connection and I'm rejuggling my schedule so as to check it out.

Sounds painful!
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

- from Anthem, by Leonard Cohen (b 1934)

The price for keeping informed I suppose.

It's good to be informed.  When somebody comes along with a comment like  "especially the one about online photos of a former member here", they might know that I was guy who paid for her domain name through 2010 when thier money was tight, and actually set up her first two sites!   ;)  That sort of being informed might prevent many people from trying to twist it into something perverse.

so, you paid for the 'right' to slaver over her.
That makes it all right then!  ;)

Yikes!

For anyone following this thread, the offending post in question, with its entire 4 lines, is here http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=25521.msg568647#msg568647  'Slavering'???  I'll leave that up to the reader.   ;D

As to the question of 'bunny boilers', and whether or not is is a malaproprism, there's an article here of interest...

I've never heard it used in that context before, and the author even says, "Although I know the term isn't exactly right...."  I think the more commonly understood meaning of 'bunny boiler' is a woman with whom one has gone out or slept, then spurned, who then "stalks" one in a vengeful and obsessive manner.

So you can see our confusion when you used it in this thread!   :o ;)

I think that the expression is now widely used to mean any woman who is unhinged, regardless of whether sex is involved.

I haven't heard it used in any way other than in regard to a spurned lover.

Happy to concede that it's a woeful malapropism.  :-[  What's the "right" term for the circumstance outlined at http://www.totally-official.com/bunnyboilers/  ???

Luckily for me, the pipeline in question came through my letterbox a few days ago, and the connection was made when this thread turned to 'stuff garry likes'. So not that painful and my ear isn't the least bit damaged.

I'm not sure everything needs a term. Sometimes a description suffices - particularly if it's as long and detailed as that one!  ;)

Just to add in so it won't be a surprise...

There is a new theatrical release of Brideshead Revisited and I'm psyched about it.  I was going to attend a charity opening last week, but got derailed by a crisis; so I'll have to see it in NYC next week.  It's a type of love triangle where a brother and sister both fall in love with the same guy.  And unable to consumate his love, the brother descends into alcoholism.  All very sad and tragic, but lots of room to speculate on the quirks of British society at the time.

I have checked it out and there are no startling credentials in this production.  BUT about 30 years ago there was an adaptation of Brideshead Revisited in a television series on the public network stateside.  And this production is absolutely *DRIPPING* with credentials, not the least of which is the woman who played the sister was believed at the time to be the most beautiful woman in the world.  Also a twilight performance by Lawrence Olivier.

So the new production has some tall shoes to fill.  If anybody here sees it, I'd love to hear your comments.  Or if you saw the first adaptation about 30 years ago, or if you only read the book!   :D

I have the videos of the original Brideshead, and it is genius. I am reluctant to see this film as I cannot see how it will be as good.  I can't see how they could cram 20 hours of story into a 2 hour film.

And it is about so much mroe than a love triangle...class war and religion are also major themes.

I didn't know this about you.   :o

At the risk of annoying all the experts, I can say that the star of the original Brideshead played opposite of Mamma Mia (note correct spelling) in another all-time favorite novel, the French Lieutenant's Woman.

In the novel, there's no mistaking that the love triangle has a gay member.  In the PBS adaptation, it was sort of namby-pambied and skirted around.  And in the new production, it's way up in your face.  It's not clear that was what Waugh intended, but I suppose if you're going up against the original production you have to take risks...

It was understated in the original TV adaptation, but very clear. We certainly didn't *see* anything but it was more than strongly implied.  I think that Sebastian's exploits towards the end put the matter beyond doubt!

Jeremy Irons is, I think, the gentleman to whom you refer. It has been a very long time since I saw the French Lieutenant's Woman, but I am pretty sure that is right.
