who needs a car, when you can rock a trolley!?!
« on: October 04, 2008, 08:56:26 PM »
After some serious back pain from toting cheap kitty litter half a mile from ASDA and paying FAR out the *ss for for a tiny bit up the street at TESCO...

I went and bought a shopping trolley.  A big one.  With four wheels.  Barely fits in the cart at ASDA.

After a week of feeling anonymous I decidedly separated myself from the herd by being the young woman with the huge trolley.  That, or I just felt so self conscious that I imagined the double takes and curious looks.

I am both mortified and satisfied.  Now to trick it out.  Maybe a Porsche emblem.  Or a sticker that says, "My other car is a Bentley".  Flames, definitely flames.

It's that or don support stockings, a tartan skirt, mac and a nice wool jumper.
 :)

I nearly bought one myself but I ended up buying a car for work and now drive by the store on the way from the office.  I had been using my carry on bag from my luggage set for a while before that.  I always got weird looks at the store, but it sure beat trying to carry all those heavy bags all the way home!!!

Leather pants, jacket and a helmet.   ;D  Those fingerless gloves...

I  I had been using my carry on bag from my luggage set for a while before that.

I had been wondering if the people on the street were using it for that or if they were leaving on a important trip!   :)

I've always used a trolley to go shopping, and walked to the shop, when I lived in New York City. Never had a car.

I went and got myself one a while back despite my husband's objection; he says that only old ladies use them.

I think it's silly to drive to a shop that is close enough to walk to, just because you have nothing to carry the things you bought in, or because it's too far to walk from while carrying heavy stuff (but not while you're empty-handed.)

ETA: I just stick the stuff directly into my trolley when I'm in the supermarket. I don't use the store trolleys.

Excellent sweetpeach!  I need advice from a seasoned veteran.

Perhaps that was the part that was confusing people, why I'd stick the trolley in a trolley.  I was worried that people might think I was shop lifiting.

I was looking aroud for examples to model, everyone else either had the smaller two wheeled carts (that fit better) or a hand basket on top of the rig.

I've got the two wheeled version that folds up but I find it awkward for long journeys.  I've got my eye on more brightly coloured ones I've seen with more serious wheels. I see more and more younger people with them lately.  Why break your back?

I ordered my trolley and have borrwed one while waiting for it to be delivered.  I LOVE the fact that I can buy heavier items now without worry about breaking my back.

Where did you find your trolley?

I got mine at a shop in York called  Barnitts.

I don't understand why in the UK, trolleys are associated with old people. In New York City, everyone uses them. It's so convenient to be able to walk down the street, going from shop to shop, buying as much as you need and then throwing it in your trolley.

I also used to use a trolley to take my clothes to the laundromat each week, as did everyone else who went to the laundromat.

Excellent sweetpeach!  I need advice from a seasoned veteran.

Perhaps that was the part that was confusing people, why I'd stick the trolley in a trolley.  I was worried that people might think I was shop lifiting.

UK shops seem to be less neurotic about possible shoplifters than US ones, in my experience.  In the UK, I've never had to check my bags at the front of the shop before I started shopping, which happened all the time when I was in New York.

I got mine at a luggage store called Mr. Bens.

I've seen cheaper ones around (Wilkos particularly), but I'm glad I talked to a salesman and test drove before I bought.  I thought I wanted a 2 wheel model, but am glad I was talked out of it.

4 wheel models require less effort to move and manipulate.  Not so easy on stairs, but you get a system going.  If you are trying to spare your back, you really don't want to be dragging anything behind you.

Another great idea, for laundry.
