Hey, woman, quit your whinging!  ;)  All I saw of my lovely Maryland was about 3 seconds of the Bay Bridge.  Now that was a rip-off!

Grrrr. I'm not happy with him! I hope the book is better. Don't forget Cait, you saw the 'Maryland Welcomes You' sign, too! ::)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Let's be honest.  The main reason most of us is watching is because we want to see what he makes of our own home states. :) ;)

Can someone tell me the channel and if it is repeated please?  Sky Plus was all maxed out with Peter Kaye tonight and I'd quite like to see this.

No, i wanted to see freaks and weirdos, so i gave up and went to bed after there weren't any in the first 15 minutes.

I thought it was very positive and interesting.  I think Stephen Fry is too intelligent to make a  "hurr hurr americans r dum" show.  I'll be sure to watch it next week too.

You can watch it on BBC I-Player, and also I think it's repeated 18 Oct 2008 19:10 BBC Two.  :)

I didn't watch it last night either, because we were catching up on the Simon Schama history programme.

I watched it and am enjoying it so far!  I'll admit to having a soft spot for Stephen Fry.  :) My husband and I listened to a little of his blog last year when he was filming this, so I've been looking forward to it.

Like others have mentioned, I was a bit disappointed at only getting the tiniest taste of each state, and some states having more air time than others.  I guess that's inevitable given the time frame.  Can't wait until he gets to a few of "my" states!

It ought to be a right 'knees-up' when he gets to the Midwest...  ;) :P  Next week is the South, I think - but I've still got to watch the first one.

Watching it now on iPlayer.  Very nice so far.  I have to admit the tiniest twinge of homesickness during some of the mountain and outdoor shots in NY and New England.

Next week is the South, I think

Alright, then here's my prediction for Georgia:  a peanut farm and Jimmy Carter, Margaret Mitchell house and discussion of Gone with the Wind, maybe Olympic Centennial Park?

What do you think Meg?

If Mindy is right about targeting freaks then I daresay Howard Finster will make an appearance.  ;)  ;D

It's all OK with me as long as there is no mention whatsoever of "Deliverance".

Absolutely! And, although I did enjoy it, now that he's done with RI I probably won't tune in again next week.

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed the show and was able to point out exactly in Maine where I used to live. I even knew where Fry was eating his lobster! Been there...done that! And next week, he's heading down to where a part of my heart and soul will always be (the South). Since I have lived in so many places in the US, I am looking forward to almost all of the areas that he going to.

I think he will do our country fairly, he has spoken many times that he has a soft spot for the US.
