Iced Tea HELL
« on: May 16, 2002, 05:50:08 PM »
I know this is a subject that has been brought up in another expat forum so this may be old news to some but I'm having a real problem making Ice Tea. Seems stupid I know.

The water here is quite hard so I've used bottled water to brew and then bottled water to dilute. I even use tea bags from the US. Despite all of this my tea is coming out looking like dank swamp water. The taste is alright but still off.

Any ideas?

Sshhh ... don't let the Brits know you're making iced tea.  They think it's a sacriledge, on a par with dissing the Queen.  But I confess I used to indulge in the privacy of my own home.  On sunny summer days, I make "sun tea."  Get a large clear glass jar or bottle, fill it with cold water and drop in a few tea bags.  Place the jar/bottle in a sunny patch and let it sit for a few hours.  The sun does the rest.  The result (at least, my result has always been) a clear, crisp-tasting beverage.  We do this in California all the time.  It's a bit time consuming, but worth the wait.

Yeah, I haven't done that in a while. Then again we're not overly indulged when it comes to summer days. I'l give it a try today though. If it works I'll buy a freakin sun lamp!!

By the way the Brits can kiss my ice tea drinkin ars*  ;D
Afterall they spoil the delicate infusion by pouring in the cow juice. :P

I'm so glad to hear someone else say that!  The ammount of times I got verbal abuse from a brit over my love of iced tea was phenomenal.  Most of it from people who normally consider me a friend, but mention iced tea and suddenly I'm the evilest person alive!  ::)

Yeah well these are the same freaks that consider nescafe crystals coffee.  :P

I love Brits, but they're not known for their refined palates.

Yes but it's the way they say "NES-CAFF" that really amuses me.  What's up with that?  [smiley=thinking.gif]

I'm really, really tired - 12 hours in the car yesterday - and it's obvious because when I read that sentence I REALLY thought you wrote "on a par with undressing the Queen".
:o

As for iced tea, I'm preparing myself for the disappointing life of iced-tes-lessness. Oh well.

Yeah, I tried the sun brew. It worked slighty better but it's still not there.

Undressing Prince William... now that's a whole new deal entirely.

No.

I'd rather not.
