You tell her you want an ENGAGEMENT ring lol!! If she wants grandchildren she will be the person to light a fire under his a**s haha.

Jep - yes I did hahaha we went on a hike to the highest point (22ft above sea level LOL) of England and he asked me to recreate the first picture he ever gave me of himself...wasn't shocked when he knelt on one knee (that's how the picture was) but when I walked away and then turned to take the photo and there was the ring box! and then he said the most beautiful words I've ever heard and I almost fell over backwards  :o He asked are you going to take the picture or what and I finally did ...I just couldn't speak....or breath....or balance....could have died happy right there!! (glad I didn't though)

His dad would be the one to light the fire!  I need to have a little chat with him :)
He asked me once (when David wasnt there) "when are you going to sort that boy out?" I dont know! I'm working on it!!!

I think his mom isnt that impressed with me, but would never say anything to him about it.

update: 2:32pm - feeling braver than ever!  Jamie, you'll go shopping with me, right???

Jep - NO I had no idea...but when I think back on it now?  He was acting weird that whole day and I couldn't figure it out.  I laugh about it, because on the way up to the "mountain" I was freaking out saying "how am I supposed to move over here? the only way is if we get married and I don't want to rush that if you're not ready...why is this so freakin' hard?" lol he just said don't worry we'll sort it and kept changing the subject.  I was VERY annoyed that he wasn't worried about it but just ended up feeling silly in the end  ;)

Mirra - I think a phone call/email to daddy in law is in seriuos order here...and YES we are going shopping!! just gimme a call...I get paid Friday haha hint hint...

I do have that one small issue of ring size...I have no idea!   In the movies, they never have to worry about ring size - the ring just always fits!!

Dear David's Dad,
I am sick of waiting for your procrastinating son to propose to me.  Will you please tell him to do it over Christmas or you are cutting him out of your will?

Love,
Carey

One hint about ring size?? When buying for a woman and you're not sure ...it's better to go small lol with men? I would bet that if you don't know go big and that would probably make him puff out his chest a little hehehe!!  And that letter is Peeerrrfect ;)

WOO!  Awesome Anna!  Smart girl.

I have a plan - I just noticed that rings in the UK are sized by letter, so I am going to bring up a fake conversation that I had with you, Jamie, about ring sizes and thats how I learned rather than looking at websites :)  Maybe I can get an idea from that manipulative conversation!!

I think it is funny that you were freakin out Jamie and you were probably freaking him out even more on the way up....heheh but it is so romantic...

mirra-I like your email to your dad in law about cutting him out of the will lol...and don't worry I don't think mens mother's will ever truly like us we will never be good enough for their sons no matter how much they like us

and you could do what my fiance did for me when we got engaged...he gave me an empty ring box with a note in it that said we will get the ring together...since he didn't know my size...and we went and picked it out together and it made it all the more special...

Anna...you are a girl after my own heart just giving him a ring and telling him it is for sizing lol

Wait, you're giving up the proposal entirely? Or just the ring sizing thing?

I wish I could contribute to this convo a little more, but not an experience I've had.

For all that are curious, Jamie has a picture of me an Jack at the top of Shuttlingsloe a high peak near Macclesfield! It was the first picture I sent to her, so was quite poignant...are you all still following me?
So I thought that as she has looked at that picture on her desktop for so long we should recreate it while she visits England, so...
I took Jamie on a good old english walk to the top of Cheshire's finest hills on one of the warmest days of 2008. All the way up Jamie looked bothered with the humidety but got to the top regardless. At the top I hatched my plan...!
You love the picture of me and Jack why not take the same photo now...?
I got down on bended knee, produced the box laden with ring opened it up and I popped the question and......

gob open...
camera poised...
wind blowing... (not hers)

NOTHING?

not a murmer...

I said take the picture and answer me...?

eventually she said YES!

The picture if she wants to show you is very funny...hahahaha

I think we will be telling the story of "that" picture for ever!

I know this is supposed to be about movies but I just don't watch them, but I do love Jamie and could talk about her forever...

Aww Alan that makes me want to cry a little!  How sweet!  Can we clone you and inject some romantic DNA into David, please?

And yes, I'm giving up on proposing. Short lived fantasy :)
