Hi all. Sorry I haven't been around. Welcome Shanthi! Glad you enjoyed reading the thread. I came in around 50 pages late and it took me about 3 days to catch up on everything. But it's my favorite thread so well worth it. Where in AZ were you visiting your friend? That's where I live (for the next month or so until I move to England).

I was in Phoenix, my best friend is doing a masters at ASU.  It was a very nice change from winter here (in NC), but I don't think I could handle being there for more than a month, and probably not at all in the summer.  I was amused by everyone complaining about the cold, though...when I left NC it was 41 and rainy (at 3pm) and I got to AZ around 9pm and it was 45 and dry.  The rest of the week it was in the 60s and 70s so I wandered around in a t-shirt and jeans/shorts most of the time while everyone else was huddled in coats.  (I brought a coat at my friend's insistence, and ended up forgetting it there....oops!)

So that gives me hope that I'll enjoy the weather in England.  I'm not a huge fan of rain, but only when it impacts my ability to ride.  I love to play in it and watch it, so if I'm not trying to deal with a spooky horse who's slipping all over the place, it doesn't bother me.

i am upset firstly because my boyfriend had to leave yesterday, but also because of the current weather situation, he has been stuck in schipol airport for almost 12 hours waiting to get his 30 minute flight home. he rang and sent texts early this morning to let me know what was going on. i feel so bad for him and can't help worrying since he got no sleep on the flight over and still has a couple of hours to go until the next scheduled flight is ready *fingers crossed*. times like this is where it really really hurts because i am powerless and there is not much i can do to comfort him. it's the only situation where i am actually wishing he would get home already.

Digitalsea I'm so sorry!! Poor guy! I hope you got to be with him for a while before he had to leave too.

Shanthi, I live close to ASU. I'm glad you enjoyed the weather. It's gorgeous here right now and reading about all the now and miserable weather in the UK right now is making me appreciate it more. Although some of the snowy scenes are beautiful, no thank you!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm having a relatively nice day- despite being at work. We have to chaperone the 6th/7th grade Valentine's day dance today right after work, too. Kinda boring and I'd rather be at home, but a fellow teacher and I already have plans for going out drinkin' tonight! We're hitting this really good Mexican place with amazing margaritas! Definitely something to look forward to! Hehe. I'm actually a bit giddy thinking about it now.

Sorry for all the stress going around lately! Just imagine- soon you'll be in England with your boys. :) Carey- I sincerely hope David gets here on Thurs. I'm pretty sure that the flights will be running fine by then. Usually takes about 24 hrs to regulate the late flights. Breathe. :)

Ok, class is back! Happy Monday. At least it's almost over!

thanks, he was here for 8 days. i can't believe how fast the time went by. it was his first trip to america as well, and we both had an amazing time together. it's just a shame that it had to end this way for him. he was first meant to leave at noon (cet) and the next flights out around 5pm were also canceled. if he can't get the 9:30 flight out, he will be there all night.
when he rang this morning, he said klm had given him a 50 euro voucher for a future flight, but i am guessing he will get more compensation after being stuck so long?

I should hope so!!  But, I was stuck in Dallas over night once and after writing a VERY strongly worded letter, all I got was a $200 voucher for future travel that expired in 6 months.  So he may have to cause a stink to get anything more.

Where in the UK does he live?

What can I say?

did they provide you with a hotel for the night or did you have to stay in the airport? i imagine weather conditions not to be a top priority in the compensation department.

he is flying into norwich, basically just needs to hop over the sea and he will be home. i haven't heard from him for a few hours, so i am getting anxious now as his flight is coming up soon.

oh, sor Carey - just saw the pic... YEP - that is what the little road runner friend looks like. Except way more cute when you can see how animated he is! Haven't seen him since this morning, but I just got back from lunch and I went down to this man made pond by a business center down the street. Lately there have been pelican's on every edge of it and they are so cool. Except the picnic tables are in the back where you can't see the pelicans and the prettiest part of the pond but it was still nice. I LOVE it when the weather is like this.

We had to get our own hotel and we were NOT compensated for that.

I want a road runner!

And now, I totally understand how you are feeling today about not being able to offer any help/consolation to your BF... David is having a TERRIBLE day and is all mopey and sad and I feel like crap b/c I can't help him. Ugh.  Any suggestions of cute things I can do (email, etc) to at least make him laugh?

oh dear! klm says they provide free meals for waits and a hotel for overnight stay, so i hope he has been taken care of today.

i am not sure what advice to give as it would depend on why he is upset. but i bet he would appreciate any words of encouragement from you. maybe instead of an email you could hand-make a little card or decorative note to him and scan or take a photo of it, that way it has a bit more personal touch.

Aww cute idea!

KLM probably takes MUCH better care of their customers than wretched American Airlines.  I bet they will be more accomodating.   I just checked on flightstats.com and it looks like the 9:30 flight is still scheduled.  (and actually the 5:15 flight left on time too.. why was he not allowed on that one!?)

hmm, i am not sure about the 5:15 flight. i've had the NWI and AMS websites up all day and according to them all of the amsterdam flights to/from norwich so far were cancelled. the good news is that the 9:30 looks to be happening, so i can start to calm down...

If you have Microsoft Paint on your computer, make him a cute (or dirty) picture of the two of you or an iside joke and send that. :)
