Helloooo MeShell -

There is no such thing as butting in - dont be silly!  Do you have a David too?   Also, just out of curiosity, for those who have Davids - do other people call them David or Dave?  I have a problem with DAVE for some reason and cannot call him that unless I'm taking the piss  [smiley=angel.gif]

Sorry to butt in but.....................

I SOOO totally agree!!!

Yay! One for for the venting party!

Okay, can I just say... I leave work in 40 minutes to go to my biometrics appointment. Still no statements. And of COURSE, it is of NO fault of his own (side note: I think I am never going to be able to let DH read this website due to all my venting. This ones' just for me!) So now he is racing off to try to get it done in the next few hours so now I have to go all the way home after my appointment to check my email there and see if he sent it before going to FedEx my app. And if it's not there I think my head will explode!!

Haha!  Okay, now I'm the one butting in.  Just wanted to wish you luck, Chi!  It sounds like a crazy week for you.  At the end of it, you should treat yourself to something special. :)

I'm telling you, he is the King of Procrastinators!... and the It's Not My Faults. Men just make things a lot more difficult than they need to be. really. I'm supposed to be flying out there in 3 and a half weeks. I'm supposed to put my two weeks in on Friday if I'm going to make that deadline, and I probs won't even know if my visa is approved yet.

Hey Dev, I know you and I are using the same courier and going the same route. I'm going to do the Urgent order with them. How soon did you get your email approval from the Consulate, and how soon did you get your passport back??

Hey Dev, I know you and I are using the same courier and going the same route. I'm going to do the Urgent order with them. How soon did you get your email approval from the Consulate, and how soon did you get your passport back??

Actually, the consulate never emailed me.  They called me on the day they issued the visa to ask me a few questions.  I didn't know at that time whether they would approve my application or not, and I certainly didn't ask on the phone (too scared!).  But later that day I found out.  Here's a post where I talked about the whole timeline: http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=51677.msg735630#msg735630.

So basically, I paid for same day service and that's what I got.  Nadereh received my visa on a Friday afternoon, took it over first thing Monday and my visa was issued that day.  If there hadn't been that small delay when the consulate put the visa in the wrong passport, I could have had my passport back by Tuesday.  But because of the delay, because I have a bit of time on my hands now, and because I'm cheap and only paid for a 2-day FedEx, not overnight, I got my passport back last Friday.

just an update the bridesmaids dress crisis may have been diverted thanks to my sister/ maid of honor...she was really mad that my friend would want the same dress as I had and she knew I wouldn't say anything cause I didn't want to cause any problems...so she sent an email to my gf and told my gf that I didn't know about the email...and basically said how would you feel if someone came along and tried to copy your wedding...well I got an email from my gf today that said she may have us each pick our own dress to wear...she is not really sure what she wants now...so we will have to see...

And Chi chi good luck with your visa and your biometrics...you will be wonderful and then when you get approved and get over to England you can slap your husband for asking you for your email hundreds of times and all he has put you thru...and then you can meet up with the ladies of the too many romantic movies thread for a drink...what do you think?

I wish I had internet access at work!  You ladies are lucky. :p

Anywho....Josy, glad your gf is changing her mind about dresses.  I would've been PISSED OFF if I were in your shoes, and probably would've gone off on her...lol.

Chi, so your hubby is a procrastinator?  Hmmm....Ian is NOTHING like that.  Since we started discussing marriage and whatnot, we've both had an "immigration box" that we've kept EVERYTHING in.  He had his stuff together before I did..lol.  Buuutt.....your DH needs to realise that the documents are important.  There's a certain time frame you HAVE to do things in, or else everything you've done thus far (like pay for the visa and have biometrics) becomes null and void.  Plus, the sooner you send stuff in, the sooner you'll be in England.

And do you HAVE to do a budget for the application?  Because Ian and I weren't planning on doing that.  Hmmm.....

And MeShell and Devin, welcome to our happy little family! :D

Beth, you best be sleeping a lot and getting better.  You've got important things to do in two weeks time.  *hugs*

I had other things on my mind too, but they've slipped.  I'm too tired.

OH!  And I went to David's Bridal after work and got a different pair of shoes, so I'm just going to send the others back.  In the end, I basically paid the same amount for both pairs, except now I have to pay for shipping to send the too big pair back.  Oh well.  Atleast the new pair I got to try on.

Noooowwww I may veg out until ANTM is on.

josy: very glad to hear that the bridesmaid dress situation was resolved!  it sounds like that was a great way to get it sorted, with your sister writing instead of you having to confront her about it.

just had a long talk with my boyfriend about my move over in july...my biggest concern has been quitting my really great job and moving over there during a recession...i have these visions of being out of work for 6, 7 months or longer.  we finally worked out a budget together and realized that we can get by on just his post-doc salary for as long as we need to.  it may be tighter than we're used to living, but it's perfectly manageable.  i'm trying to finish up a manuscript of my poems and get a book published and we decided that i can use the time not working to really put in a lot of effort to finish that up and he is completely supportive of me taking the time to do that.  i've gone from being absolutely scared of not working (i'm a bit of a workaholic/over-achiever...i worked 3 jobs in college!) to being thrilled at the prospect of having time to write and get settled!  it will be the first time since college that i've been able to fully devote myself to my writing and i feel so much better reframing how i'm looking at this move.  now i just have to make sure i remain this positive for the next 4 months!

Chi - how was the biometrics?  Please tell me you FINALLY got the goods from him!

That is a great way to look at it lily - I am glad you and the BF were able to have the conversation.  Sometimes life has a way of working out just the way it should, doesnt it?  Don't forget to dedicate some poem about long distance love to us girls! :)

lily that was the hardest thing for me when I came over here was learning to be without a job...I like you love to work and am a workaholic...but I started to see it as a chance to persue things I always wanted to. Like for you it will be your manuscript of poems...it will take a little adjustment but I am sure you will soon come to love it...I too had to leave a high paying job and I have always been completely independent...this being dependent on someone is very strange...but you can do it...and you and your boyfriend are off to a good start by working everything out before hand....

I am a little happier with the bridemaids dress situation as well...we will find out on Saturday if she picks her own dress for us or decides to use mine...we shall see...

Patty congrats on the shoes...are you so ready for your wedding? I bet you are so very excited....

Chi how was your appt and did you get eveyrthing for your visa?

how are the rest of you all doing?

Hello all. Well, yesterday was quite the day. I did get the biometrics done (which was very quick and easy but kind of nerve wracking! I brought in my drink and the guard said it was fine, but then the lady doing my finger scan was like "hide that. if she see's it she'll have a fit!" I offered to throw it out but she was like, "No, I don't care. I just don't want her to see it and go off." So that part stressed me out). And I won't go into the annoying details, but DH did get the forms to me eventually and I did get the app overnighted to the courier just before the cutoff time for FedEx. Still pretty peaved about that, but he doesn't seem to understand what the big deal is. Whatev. That's men I guess. There are some men that are totally opposite and are very organized. Those are the ones I tend to be friends with, rather than my husband being chums with them. I so wish my husband had some of those qualities. Although, if he did I probably wouldn't find him as intriguing. Go figure the human psyche!

Dev, what kind of questions did they ask you? I know I'll be fine, but that still makes me nervous. I hate being put on the spot like that. That's one reason I wanted to get my app off yesterday so the courier could get it today and get it over to the consulate right away. So hopefully I will hear something before Monday and I can start to figure out if I can really be there when I'm planning to and get the ball rolling with work, etc.

Josy, I will DEFINITELY need a drink and some ladies to vent to!! :)

Patty, I did do a 6 month projected budget. I don't think it's on the list from any of the visa websites, but I think I read about it on here and thought it was a good idea. It's the easist and most efficient way to show them that you can support yourselves. Plus, better to be over prepared I think :).

K, about time for my break. How is everyone today?? I'm just glad yesterday is over!! BUT - I was 2 minutes late this morning and kicking myself for it! :(
