Yeah, Ian filled out his ESTA and there was still a HUGE chance they would bounce him.  That whole "will he get in or won't he" stress drove me NUTS! lol

Just a heads up - the fact that they have filled out the ESTA thing doesnt automatically ensure or guarantee their entry to the US.  Not that any of your guys will have trouble, but they can still be refused entry even if they have been "approved" via the ESTA program.

I really doubt they'd bounce Tim. He's 38, has a steady job working for one of the UK Government's agencies (Network Rail), has plenty of money in the bank, and is only coming for a three week visit.

I've always known that it never guarantees entry, it's not that easy to get an entry visa :P I remember reading the article about it way back in July/August of last year, so when the website went live I went and had Steve fill it out so he wouldn't have to.

I don't think Tim will have too many issues; Steve's been okay so far coming in for 1-2 week holidays, and he's like Tim kinda. He's 38, has worked for 10 years at DHL, has money on him, and this time he's coming for 2 weeks, so I think Tim will get through as well :)

Edit: Continental phoned Steve up earlier, and informed him they don't have a flight out of Birmingham for the 19th--three months after he booked the ticket and confirmed it. I'm not complaining though, since he flies out on the 18th instead, and leaves on June 3rd instead of the 2nd :) Yay for them not liking Tuesday flights all of a sudden.

Yeah, that's why he opted the 18th instead of the 20th, both of which they offered, since he had the 18th off to begin with :P They already messed up kinda once when they had him confirm a change to his itinerary once online, then it deleted half his reservation. Soooo, then he had to call them in Houston and sort it out, and then they had to call him today to sort it out again. It's no skin off my nose :)

It is somewhat stressful when your SO has to go through immigration, I always feel better once he's through. But I also remember how long it took for me to get through it, and I couldn't have my cell phone on, so I try to relax a bit--it seemed forever till I got my luggage, and you can't turn on phones until you've been through baggage control at Newark.

Tim will do great though, he's got plenty of ties to the UK and is only staying for a few weeks, and as long as he has things we would take with us when we go to the UK, it should be fine. Steve's bringing his son with him, and his son has a letter from the school with the date that he's supposed to go back to school on, along with return tickets and sufficient funds and all that loveliness :)

Everyone in Dulles uses their phones while waiting in line for customs and immigration. Okay, maybe not in the non-US line, but everyone around me in the US line was talking or texting people.  I called Tim as soon as I got off the plane to tell him I landed, then was told I wasn't allowed to be on the phone, so I hung up, but then saw everyone else around me texting and making calls!

I was very tempted to do that in Newark, since there were people using them. But I didn't want to get in trouble with anyone either, but it was taking forever to get the luggage off the plane and I was getting antsy since I wanted to phone my mom and Steve :(

Has anyone here done 3 or more trips to the UK in the span of 7 months?  I'm planning on visiting my lovely bf at the end of May for the summer, but I just got back from the UK last week.  And, I spent several months there last year.  I can bring a bunch of stuff showing plans to return, but I'm scared (as always) of being bounced.  We are currently applying for a US fiancee visa for him, so the added cost of a visitor visa would be painful.

Grrr... I love my bf, and I wouldn't trade him for the world- but the expense and worry all this travel stuff causes me makes me bonkers.

Sarah, I tend to think that if you have a history such as yours where you visit often, but always leave, that will work in your favour.  I visited twice in three months last year and no one batted an eyelash, but they were only 1 week trips.

How long will this trip be?
Are you employed?  I think as long as you bring a letter from your employer that you are expected to return, that is enough.

If not, what about a mortgage agreement?

Those seem to be the most useful things to prove intent to return.

I know that Becca didnt have either of these things and was ok with a long visit, so hopefully she can tell you what she did...

Sarah,

I think it's really all up to the I/O and what they want to do, but you sound like you're pretty prepared!  If you're still concerned though, I'd poke around the Visa forum or even post a topic over there.

All I had was a letter from Tim stating that he had invited me from x-y and was going to provide me with room and board.  Also included in the letter was things like his employer's name, that he owned his house, his UK passport number, and his mobile number.

As soon as I handed that over, I was in with no further questions.

Thanks for the replies.  I'm planning on staying for 2.75 months.  I stayed 4 months last year August-November, but wasn't stamped into the UK until Nov 16.  (I came through Ireland, and a 60 day stamp from them) I would post on the visa board, but I already know what will be said, get a visitor visa- which we can't really afford.  I have a letter from my landlord saying I'm a good tenant with a year long lease, as well as a copy of my school schedule (school starts in August), a letter from my employer saying they expect me to return, and enough money (frickin' barely and mostly from my mom, $3000) to support myself for the trip.  I also have paid my car insurance for the year, so I can bring a copy of that too.  *big sigh* I always worry I'm going to be bounced.

All of that should be just fine!  Also, you can let them know your future plans if they ask so that they know you are familiar with the system and know the rules.

I am, for the first time, worried about being bounced on my next trip, too.  I just got married and so this time will have to say "I'm here to visit my husband" AND I am pretty sure I'm about to get laid off, so I will have to say I am unemployed... I am hoping that my mortgage agreement and the fact that my dog is still "quarantined" at home will be enough to convince them.  Since we are on the subject, anyone have any other suggestions on what I can bring as proof or should that be enough?
