I have sat on the wrong side in the driver's seat but only by accident. My bf's mom laughed at me lol.

Carey, it's so cool you can take your puppydog with ya!

How many confirmed cases of swine flu have there been in England? Anyone know?

I'm not going to lie, I finally booked my ticket today and I LOVE having a ticker.  So much to do before then though....

Awwww....I'm watching GMTV here, and Blue is on.  Blue was the boy band that was in Love Actually *sighs* :)  They just got back together for some odd reason.

Anyway...so I've not been around much because I've been trying to adjust to life in England.  Talked to Jamie a lot and Josy once on the phone (which, btw, Josy...I need to call you again real soon :) ).

October 1st is your move, Carey?!  WOOT!!!!  Has David said anything, btw, about the four of us meeting up?  Let me know. :)

Annndd the driving thing.  Well, I'll be starting to tackle that real soon.  I have a job interview next week for a care service for senior citizens and as a carer you have to drive to their house.  It's in and around Romsey, so I'm hoping I won't have to drive TOO far, but hopefully since I'll need additional training I won't have to go out right away if I get the job so I can have more time to learn how to drive.  Plus, we might be trading in our BMW for a small car because 1) the beemer is just sucking up too much money in repairs and 2) Ian is afraid I'll need a smaller car in order to feel comfortable driving.

I'll let you all know how the driving goes. :)

All right...must dash here.  Going out with my MIL and SIL for the morning, then possibly heading into town to get stuff to make for tea tonight.  I REALLY want to make jacket potatoes, but we need the filling stuff.  HOPEFULLY my pin for my debit card will come today.  Ian added me to the checking account this past weekend.  It's FINALLY starting to sink in and feel like we're married now. :)

Have a great weekend, ladies!  I'm off to London for the weekend.  WOOT!

HI everyone haven't been on for a while....been doing the married thing lol.

So everything is fantastic! Finally comfortable driving which is nice now I just need to pass my test:) LOL I started working at a pub down the street one day a week, just to get out there and see if I could do it and that is fun.  I have my first real job interview in a few weeks with the NHS which would be the perfect job so cross your fingers for me.

Alan and I are doing do well enjoying the spring here...which is beautiful might I add.  Unlike where I am from it is getting progressively warmer which is nice! We have put together our back garden and really enjoy spending the warm evenings supping wine and looking at all of our work.  I've been slowly but surely putting the house together as ours.  Which means decorating and putting new family pictures on the walls.  It really feels like home now.  I have definately taken to marriage.  It's so nice not to have to deal with life on our own anymore.  I can't imagine being away form him ever again and I never will be.

I do get a little homesick sometimes I can't lie.  I really miss my family and the few friends who haven't forgotten about me.  You will be surprised about how many people just disappear from your life once you live 4500 miles away.  Some of the people I called best friends are long gone now (F****ers) but what can I expect? Having Josy and Patty to talk to helps SO much.  We get on the phone and before you know it hours have passed haha.  It's just nice to have friends here that understand the problems we face as immigrants.  Looking forward to a visit form Joe soon:) And in the planning stages of a trip to London to see Patty and Ian YAY

Well I just wanted to drop a note and say hello to all the romantic girls....have to go now.  Have a few wifely duties to take care of before I go to work at 1pm:( BOOO LOL take care girls talk to you soon xxxx

Wow, it has been a long time since I've been on here! A lot to catch up on! Sorry I've been absent ladies. And welcome to the new posters! I've been in England for a month now, and Jamie you were right - it went by SO fast!! It has been an extremely difficult adjustment this time though. But it has gotten much better with time. I think living with my in laws makes it a bit more difficult in some ways because I feel like I don't have any idependance or like we aren't really married. It's like being kids again. And your space isn't really your space. So that's been hard to deal with and I get gloomy pretty easily most days. But I've taken a big step in the last week with applying for a million jobs, and yesterday I even went in for interviews with two agencies, anc each of them had a specific position they thought I would be great at. It's hard to think about salaries here vs salaries in the US and not feel a little distressed, but the cost of some things here are much less, so we'll have that. I just hope I get a really good job that I enjoy going to every day. I hate looking for new jobs - it's so out of my comfort zone. I'm not completely adapted yet :)... if you can't tell. But, I do have plenty of incentives to get it moving... getting our own place... taking LOTS of trips...and getting a new phone!! I really want a blackberry and have my plan all picked out, but I'm holding off until I get a job. Oh, and the driving thing... eesh! No thank you!! My husband and mother in law have asked me a few times if I want to give it a go, but I have not yet been brave enough. I don't know how you ladies do it!! I'm still confused when I'm riding in the passenger seat!! It makes it a bit difficult living out in the country when you don't have a car and you don't drive. Hoping when we get our own place it's much closer to the train station. Ah well, that's me for now.

Hehe, I love seeing everybody's tickers, I don't feel like such a dork for having mine :P

I guess I'll put in a small update while everyone's doing theirs: it's only a couple weeks until I'll see Steve again, and he's a little nervous about coming through immigration :( He'll have paperwork with ties to the UK and all that loveliness and he'll be honest, but he was watching telly (Nothing to Declare, that show about customs in Australia I believe) and he's scared they'll bounce him from the US. I told him what he's doing is legal and he'll be honest and straightforward and all that stuff, but he's still a bit stressy--usually that's my job. And I'm not really stressed about him getting through immigration, so I'm not sure what to do  :-[ I think US immigration intimidates him sometimes, and it's been a couple years since he's come through so I guess I just keep having to tell him it'll be fine even though he's still a bit anxious.

Hi ladies...it's so nice to see everyone's updates!  I will post one, as well...I already posted all of this on the 2009 wedding thread, so it may be redundant for some...

DFa nd I finally found my engagement ring and also picked out the wedding bands for both me and my DF.  Now we only need to have the bands engraved.

We also picked a date and a place for our wedding...11/22 at this beautiful family home that's been coverted to a wedding facility.  It's on several acres of land with tall trees, lakes, etc...beautiful!  The facility provides everything except the photographer, which I will sort out later this month.  We are planning for 100 guests.

I have also...purchased my wedding dress, shoes and earrings, picked out my bridesmaids and flower girl dresses and shoes, purchased my bridesmaids gifts, purchased my reahearsal dinner dress...I believe that's it.  I'm in the process of picking out wedding invitations.

Oh...I also ordered save the date magnets and am sending them out later this week to the out of town guests.

Congrats Cella! Is the wedding here in the US or in the UK? How exciting!!

Not much going on here with me except trying to make it through the final bit of school. I'm so tired today, too. Rainy Monday is not the best way to start the week! Oh well.. at least my trip countdown is at 26 days now!! Woo!

Well, back to work! Hope the rest of you ladies are doing well! :)

Tim's so sweet.

We've barely spoken since last Wednesday, because his best friend came up to visit over Tim's long weekend and so Tim and I were only able to catch a half an hour on the phone after Nick went to bed for the past uhm....however many days.  This, of course, has made us both slightly frustrated and we promised each other quality phone time after Nick left. It also doesn't help that on Saturday, I leave for a week in Florida with my family, where again, we'll be lucky to catch a half hour each night on the phone.

Nick was supposed to leave this morning and go stay with another friend through the weekend.  Friend apparently didn't realize Nick wanted to arrive on Wednesday and wasn't ready for him to show up, so Tim's being the dutiful best friend and offered Nick the spare room for another night.

Tim just IMed me quickly to tell me not to get my hopes up for talking to him today, and that he was really disappointed because we promised each other quality phone time today. Aww.

Hello ladies!

I'm still reading, I promise!  I've been SO BUSY with school, and trying to work as much as possible before I leave to go back to Pennsylvania for 1/2 of the summer.  I have one final left, and I go home on Friday!

I can officially say right now that it's ONE WEEK until my boyfriend will be back over here.  I'm so excited.  And kind of nervous, too.  All of this talk about boyfriends being turned away by immigration and stuff is just making me super paranoid. He seems to be totally in denial that it's even a possibility.  Fingers crossed.

I'm currently looking for an internship for the fall, and I've found a position open in DC at the British Embassy...in my field!  I'm kind of excited to apply for it.  But at the same time...considering that my boyfriend is from N. Ireland and doesn't really side with the Brits, he and my other friends over there don't think it's a great idea.  I don't know, maybe I'm more neutral to the situation over there since I didn't grow up in it.  Meh. I dont' know. Perhaps having "Internship at British Embassy" on my resume will outweigh "B.A. From The Catholic University of America" when I'm job hunting over there...they won't know which side I'm on!  ;)

How is everyone doing?  Any fun plans for the summer?  Ideas to keep a totally unenthusiastic Irishman entertained during May and June?! haha

brittany: it's officially one week until my boyfriend will be back in the US, as well!

i'm starting to get a bit nervous about what we should have david say at the airport this time. well, i'll rephrase that: he's going to tell the truth, but i'm getting nervous that they won't like what he says.  this is what i've come up with that he could show them.  anyone have any thoughts on this--too much? anything else that might work better?

--letter from employer stating when he is due back
--print out of return ticket
--bank statement to show available funds
--copy of my visa showing that i am approved to work in the uk (to verify that i will be moving over there and he is simply visiting for now)
--copy of our lease for the new place (if he gets it back from the realtor in time...)
--copy of my flight to the uk for june to show that i'll be joining him when we move into our new place? (i'm thinking this may be overdoing it...)
--print out of our hotel reservations and train tickets for maine to show that we will be on holiday while he is here

i'm still swamped with packing! you wouldn't believe how much stuff i am donating to charities/giving away to friends.  i'm moving more stuff to my dad's place on saturday and then focusing on sorting out what david should take back on the plane with him.

hope all is well with everyone!
