ABout the weather and what to pack.. I'd definitely bring a coat and several sweaters/jumpers. I had to buy a cardigan and a coat (well, heavy jacket) this summer! One thing about the temps- they can be deceiving since it's soooooooo windy here. The temp may be upper 60s/70s, but with the wind it feels much colder! And I'm in the south of England! Who knows what it will be like in Scotland this weekend! I've been told it's even windier. Eeps. Don't forget, though, you can always buy something if you need it here. There are plenty of reasonably priced shops (and cute stuff!) You won't need 4 pairs of shoes either, probably. You'll find you tend to wear the same ones. I have a pair I brought that I've only worn once. (Waste of space! Grr!) You will have a great time no matter what you bring I'm sure!!

Anyway, EQ- good news on the horse. Hope it works out! :)

Not much going on here.. just enjoying my last week of being here in England before I have to leave next Friday. I'm trying not to focus on that bit and just enjoy it all. But, I definitely do NOT want to go back to work- especially since we just found out not only are we not getting our normal cost of living raise (like 1.5%) this year, we are getting a pay reduction in the form of forced unpaid days off. And it looks like we won't be able to choose them either! Such a crock. Definitely will be hitting the streets for a part time job when I get home. Bleh. (Though I know it could be worse, but less pay doesn't really help the whole "saving a bajillion pounds for a tier 1 visa and having the right salary level, etc" plan, especially now the pound is stronger.)

Well, I'm gonna get a move on. I think I will go to the British Library today. :) Hope everyone's moving/visiting/wedding plans are going well!!

Good Advice - this is why I ask the women who have been there done that as the BF swears I won't need it! I may be from Jersey but I have lived in Texas for 8 years and I am quite spoiled and SICK of the heat!
1 pair of shoes really? No way I may not be girly girl but I have decided and agreed with mirrajay...1 pair of trainers ( I will wear on the plane), my black knee high boots to wear with the dresses and skirts for "going out" and flat brown clarks and flat black slides for daily wear.  That's only packing 3 pairs technically since I am wearing my trainers ;-)
Packing is not fun for me as I think I need at least 2 outfits a day times 16 days haha 32 outfits!  I am coming to the conclusion that will not happen, there are washing machines.
According to the BF I only need 2 sweaters - yea right - I prefer to be over prepared and like he says we can buy anything I don't have there so I am going with that.  Well Technically I just need to get myself there and the rest we can worry about later - yep I love that man.

I definitely do NOT want to go back to work- especially since we just found out not only are we not getting our normal cost of living raise (like 1.5%) this year, we are getting a pay reduction in the form of forced unpaid days off.
That stinks..don't feel bad my 6 year anniversary was July 7th - raise? Nope we will revisit NEXT year as I am short employees and not allowed to hire anyone and no raises.  I need a part time job as well but I just want to work Thursday night and Friday all day...(I only work 4 days a week where I am now)

Ok I am on a coffee ramble and I think I am done for now!
Have a great day!

Well, we're neighbors then!  I went to Los Altos High School and middle school and elementary in Los Gatos.  :D What year did you graduate?  I have quite a few friends that went to Paly, so we may have friends in common.

My dad used to live in Los Altos/Los Gatos (now he's in San Jose).  I moved to MD with my mom in 6th grade, so I didn't do high school in CA.  I went to Addison Elementary until 5th grade, though, and my mom/aunt graduated from Paly. :)

Well, it's a small world after all.  ;)  I'm looking forward to going to all my favorite south bay restaurants when I get home, especially Shogun in Santa Cruz! mmmmmm

I leave on the 17th, anytime before the 15th works great for me. I'll probably be a big ole' baby about leaving my boy at that point - just to warn you.

aww, i will have plenty of sympathy for you!  i should be available pretty much anytime on the 13th or 14th...will just be settling in those first few days.  we're also having a housewarming party the evening of the 15th that you and your boyfriend are welcome to attend, but i know you must have a lot going on that last weekend and may want some alone time!  anyways, let's be in touch closer to these dates!

I GOT MY APPROVAL LETTER!!!!

*insert lots of screaming and dancing and scaring the pets*

I even said to myself on the way home "hm, maybe today will be better because I'll have heard from the embassy...nah, better not to think that" (today actually wasn't bad, but it ended with a 90min meeting about something that sucked, so that wasn't very cool).

Much yayness for low expectations being exceeded! :)

Of course, the letter invites me to a citizenship ceremony in Atlanta, when I requested it for DC, so I'll need to see if that can get straightened out (my parents don't live in Atlanta, so not only would they not show up, I wouldn't have a free place to stay before/after the ceremony).  Worst case, though, flights to/from Atlanta are cheap, so that's also an option.

W00t!  Happy day. :D

Wow, I've never heard that phrase, and am not quite sure I want to hear it again.  ;)  (Of course, I also got out of the habit of saying "that's the bomb" in high school when people were getting suspended for mentioning the b-word after Columbine...)

Congrats, EQ! I live in Atlanta, so if you DO come here, we could at least meet for celebratory drinks/dinner! :)
