you are exactly right mirrajay..we have to find Gottagettolondon a nice British man....hehehe (we could make this like a real romantic movie lol)

and brilliant idea giving it to him for Christmas and making him open it...just make sure you take a picture of his face as he opens it lol...and then share it with us hehe

I ALMOST bought Love Actually again today.....

...a friend of mine has been borrowing my copy for the past two years or so.

But then I thought No....don't want to be sad and sappy right now.  So, I passed on it.

Plus I could probably find a copy cheaper somewhere.. :p

Buy it, but dont watch it until your fiance comes to visit!!  It is a must have in any sappy girl's movie collection :)

lol...oddly enough, he said he likes the films.  Well, and I quote "Some bits."  I asked, "Which is your favorite?" and he said "The part where that girl from Gavin and Stacey is bouncing up and down with her kit off."

Typical male. :p

I completely agree with this thread...I just watched The Holiday the other day and at the end when she runs back to him and stays...I got a little bitter towards her...because there are so many times I wanted to stay...and how can she just decide to stay without going thru the visa process like the rest of us

I haven't seen The Holiday, but every time I watch a movie or TV show that involves a move to the UK, or studying in the UK, or getting married in the UK I always think to myself "it's not that easy! Stop making it look so easy!"

I actually had a friend ask me if I would just "move in" with Tim here and I had to explain that it's a little more complicated than that.  She didn't understand because of course, people do it in the movies and on TV shows all the time.

It is strange that a girl from Pennsylvania didn't find love until she met the guy from England...very bizarre...but maybe it is because I have always been a hopeless romantic...like the rest of you...

Me too, JEP! Which part of PA are you in?

it definitely isn't as easy as deciding to stay or just moving over there...the movies lie lol...yet we love the movies anyway and wish that life could be like that...And what have they been showing non stop on cable lately? the holiday...I will never get away from that movie...hehe

I just saw a cute movie the other day called Jack and Sarah...and it was a cute romantic movie but the girl was American and she was in London and she was working...but I don't think she had a visa or anything...it seemed like she just decided to pick up and go and live there...and on top of that she fell in love...I was so jealous of her and she is a fictional character lol.... :)

it is nice to have a place where we can all be sappy and jealous and bitter together lol

Lancaster! :D I know where you live, I attended Penn State Abington for a semester and used to date a guy in Devon :)

--
since we're all posting the sappy stories of our BFs, here's mine -

Tim and I met online in a IRC chatroom for the webcomic, College Roomies From Hell!!!.  We were just friends and liked to banter back and forth.  In 2005 there was a convention in Seattle for the comic, and he and I both attended...me with my boyfriend at the time, another boardie (what we called ourselves).  Tim and I barely had time to spend together at the convention because my boyfriend at the time was attached to me, but I do remember he and I got to spend an evening chatting away.  And he brought me a Dairy Bar....which has become my favourite chocolate ever since.

Tim and I kept our friendship going...at one point he was without internet for 2 months and I remember freaking out  that something bad had happened, and when he finally got back online, he sent me his phone numbers in case anything ever happened again.

I got involved with someone else, and Tim listened to me talk about him and never once said anything negative about it...but then when the boy broke my heart, guess who was there for me?  I was headed on a 10-day vacation to Orlando and on a cruise (BNL's Ships and Dip!), and he made sure he was around when I was able to get internet access.  Things really started to progress, and he had upgraded to broadband and wanted to "test it out" by calling me on Skype.  Previously, we had tried on dial-up and it didn't work too well.  I told him I needed to buy a headset first, so I went out and got one, and we began talking nearly every day.....somedays if he had the day off we'd be on for 8 hours!  Obviously, we both really liked each other.  I had been planning a visit here since I came back from the cruise in January. Originally for only 2 weeks, and then I asked about staying longer, and he told me to (pre-dating, still!)

Finally, in July he asked me to be his girlfriend...made a special call on Skype just to do it!

Arriving here on 17 October was incredible, I'm so glad I'm here right now.  He told me he loved me one night completely out of the blue while we were cuddling in bed together.

I'm really not looking forward to going home, that's for sure!

Aww Anna .. when do you have to come back?  and where in the UK are you and Tim?

JEP - I didnt know your visa was refused!  I am so sorry to hear that.  Did they give you feedback as to why that decision was made??

I've been waiting since I returned from England on Oct. 14 to stop missing him every second of ever day, but it hasnt happened this time... Usually I feel "almost normal" within 2 weeks, but this one has been different and I imagine it will be even worse when I return after Christmas.  BOO HOO!

I dont know the movie Jack and Sarah, but I hate it already!! :)

Yeah they said they didn't think we had enough funds...I think they misread my bank statement. I had 3 accounts on my statements and they only looked at my checking balance. So I am trying to figure out the next step.

Aww mirrajay leaving is so hard and you came back Oct 14th...when do you go back...at least you will get to spend Christmas with your man  ;D

yes we will add Jack and Sarah to the hate list lol....

I am going back Dec 23, so I will be there on Christmas Eve morning :)  but then have to leave before New Years Eve, so I will hate The Holiday even more after that.

Cameron when she runs back in the house to Jude: "why would I leave before New Years Eve?"

Me before I slap Cameron across the face: "Oh, I dont know because you have a job to get back to AND it costs hundreds to change your ticket!  Stupid woman"

ahh.. bitter moment over... for now :)

Anna- sweet story! :)

mirra - Tim lives a few miles outside of Lincoln, but this weekend we're going to London :D  Technically I'm supposed to leave on 22 December, but I have a sort of open-ended ticket since I was able to fly over on my friend's mom's buddypass, so I'm considering staying through Christmas and New Year's.  Probably not much longer than that, though.

JEP - Ow.  For a fiance visa?  That's the primary reason if Tim and I get engaged, we would get married in the US and then move me over on a Spousal...I know I don't have enough money to support myself for six months without being able to make any income!
