Awww...I'm a bit jealous actually, Jamie. :p  Buuuttt....UBER excited for you at the same time.

So, I need a quick vent, and I apologise in advance for doing so...but my fiance could potentially be pretty ill.  He has type 2 diabetes, and the day after I left England he had an eye test done.  They didn't like what they found (the nerves behind his eyes are swollen), so he had a brain scan done, few more visits to the Dr., and long story short, he got a letter from the hospital setting up an appointment with a neurologist.  So, that was supposed to be in Jan, but he got ANOTHER letter last week saying they wanted to push it up to Dec. 8th.  He didn't want to/couldn't do it because of work, but the neurology office's secretary called him and said "You HAVE to make it on the 8th, if you don't it could be VERY detremental to your health."

Soooo.....I'm flipping out a bit.  Ian is all "I want one week of 'normalcy' until I find out," but, if things are bad I don't know what we're going to do.  I know we might be jumping the gun a bit, but would a Dr's office say that to someone if it was good news??  And I had just booked the date at the courthouse for he and I to get married, and I booked the restaurant for our wedding dinner.

Just wanted your opinions because I can vent to my friends, but they don't understand fully how hard it is being away from the one they love when things like this are happening.

Thanks, ladies....xx

Don't panic.

I had a similar situation happen to me a few years ago - I went to see an eye doctor to get my prescription updated, he didn't like the freckle in my eye, sent me to a specialist, who sent me to a neurologist...after I had a CT scan of my brain I got a VERY scary phone call telling me I "had" to go in for an "emergency" spinal tap....which turned out to be absolutely nothing.

but lots of hugs for you guys! Everything will be fine, and he'll be there soon! :D

Oh goodness.. I am so sorry to read that and am nervous for you and Ian!  I hope that he goes ASAP - I couldn't bear the waiting and worrying.  I am a bit of a hypochondriac and general worrier, so I did some research for you.  It could be something called Diabetic Retinopathy, and it looks like WORST CASE senario is partial loss of sight, but there is treatment that should stop this from happening in his case if he is not already experiencing loss of sight.
Here is some info I found: http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show_section/25542.  This looks totally manageable to me!

There are other reasons that people's optic nerves swell, like a tumor, BUT it would appear that in his case, its being caused by his diabetes, which seems to me is less to worry about.  ???

Is he going to go on the 8th??  Please keep us posted!

Patty, I'm definitely sending lots of calming and healing vibes to you both. I hope that he will go on Monday to the dr. to go ahead and get treatment started. If he is vigilant now, he will avoid more complications later. Hugs to you!! :)

I would be super excited about my 20, but my boss just came into my office and said that three volunteers who are involved in one of the events I run called our CEO to set up a meeting and asked that neither I or my boss are there.  I have had issues with one of these volunteers before and now am terrified that this meeting is to throw me under the bus!  They wanted to do it tomorrow, but CEO cant, so it might have to wait until MONDAY!  I cant wait until then without knowing what their problem is... I feel ill.

Oh no, Carey! I can understand how you feel, though. Hopefully it won't be like you're thinking. Fingers crossed for you.

Big scary secret meeting is set for 1:30pm tomorrow.  Think happy thoughts.

Also, I found this cool website called www.getinhishead.com where you can tell your BF/Husband what you want for gifts, sizes, favourite colors, brands, etc and give them a calendar of important dates. Its silly really, but I created an account for David and me and he filled out his wishlist and put a new watch on there!  WOOO!! I picked the right gift even before he "wished" for it!

Carey- lots of positive thoughts! They worked for me yesterday, so I'm sure they'll work for you, too. Cool idea on the site. I could use one of those for my Dad! LOL I never know what to get him. Clothes hardly fit right (he's tall and the arm length is tricky), gift certificates are too impersonal for him, I think (though I've done it in a pinch), he loves books and DVDs but I've done that too! I'm just always thinking there's some really cool gift he secretly wants but would never ask for!

Beth - have you tired the site www.gifts.com?  It comes up with some of the most unique gifts based on personality and relationship to the person.  I am one of those who LOVES to give gifts and wont rest until I have the best one, but I am not a huge fan of shopping, so I adore this site.

My boss says there is nothing to be worried about, but I may have a drink tonight just to calm my nerves (as I mentioned before I am a big time worrier). Things like this totally derail me!

Totally random: Jamie, have you been to Belmar recently?  I decided today that if I dont move to England, I am totally moving there.  ITS SO CUTE now that is mostly finished.

Oh, and another random thought (I think my nervousness makes me think too much): David said he wants to take me here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polesden_Lacey   Tell me, is that where Jude takes Cameron in The Holiday when they frolick around outside!?

I don't think so, Carey. There were stairs leading up to the house from the back that they ran up...... Plus, it's not mentioned anywhere. I'd be guessing they'd use it somehow to attract Americans?
