This afternoon, I saw Slumdog Millionaire with mapleleafgirl72, and yes - it's a GREAT movie like the others have said.  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I saw "The Wrestler".  It's probably a great film, but it was so totally depressing you can't believe it.

I lived in Hudson County NJ for 9 years and they definitely got the NJ stuff right.  Also Bruce Springsteen's song at the end is a true Springsteen bigger-than-life ballad, worth the cost of the ticket itself.

Has anyone seen...Seven Pounds?

Yes, save your money!  I saw it in the US - it's intense and sad (definitely not a good film for me to see while I was there), but it's also silly & preposterous at the same time.  I've explained the convoluted plot to a couple people since I returned to the UK, and couldn't get through the explanation without everyone busting out laughing at just how ridiculous it is.  I'm wondering if Will Smith had some extra bills to pay or something?

If you want to see it, wait for the DVD.

Yeah, I was puzzled by reviews of Seven Pounds the other day - in the same morning, I read one review that stated that it was possible Will Smith's best ever work and that it was an amazing film and another that said it was basically a load of cr*p and the worst thing he'd ever done! From hearing other reviews over the last couple of days, it seems the general consensus is closer to the second review than the first!

I guess you could say the acting was good enough (the drama of it all), but the plot is really a load of crap.  :)

The only reason we saw it - was a small theatre in rural Kansas & there weren't many choices, we had spare time & wanted something to take our minds off other things (a major family funeral) - not knowing what it was about.  Big mistake!  :(

Well maybe you would like it.  I have pretty exacting film standards - but the people I explained it to, thought it sounded ridiculous as well.

I saw "The Reader" yesterday.  Very good, but depressing.  Kate Winslet was fantastic as ever.  I really recommend it, but not if you are already suffering from the winter blues.

I will have to respectfully disagree with Mrs Robinson about Seven Pounds (although, I do agree that it wasn't a good thing for her to see at that time!  Far too sad!).  It is a very intense movie; but, I also thought it was fantastic!  The plot is a bit weird.  However, after spending many years participating in theatre (and almost getting a degree in it), I find that when you go see a movie, play, or musical, you must be prepared to suspend disbelief.  In doing so, you connect with the characters and enjoy the film.  The plot may seem far-fetched; but, I think the movie says quite a bit about humanity.  Often times, what is created reflects reality in an unrealistic way.  I do think that the film isn't for everyone; but, it is worth a go.  :)

It was the farfetched bit that got me - particularly when I was explaining it to others and saw the astonished looks on their faces, and then they started to giggle, and then it was like - yeah, that would never happen in real life.  Also, my oldest brother was really annoyed through the whole thing & kept sighing heavily over 'who are all these people? and when are they gonna tell us what the heck is going on here?'.  LOL!  :)

I have to disagree with Mrs Robinson as well.  I thought Seven Pounds was good.

I also really liked Defiance.  Daniel Craig is HOT!

His performance in Defiance adds a new dimension to Craig's acting skills.
