I thought I would start a new topic since we changed the meeting date.
Since most of the attendees are based in West London, we will be meeting at
The Town Wharf in Isleworth. It is a lovely pub, right on the Thames. We will meet at 4pm. From there, we can proceed to dinner.
If you want to attend, need directions or have some questions, please PM me. Also, if you haven't read the book but would like to join us for dinner, please PM me, so we know you are coming.
As a reminder, the book we will be discussing is
Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
Half of a Yellow Sun is set in Nigeria during the 1960s, at the time of a vicious civil war in which a million people died and thousands were massacred in cold blood. The three main characters in the novel are swept up in the violence during these turbulent years. This extraordinary novel is about Africa in a wider sense: about moral responsibility, about the end of colonialism, about ethnic allegiances, about class and race; and about the ways in which love can complicate all of these things.
It is an absorbing, fascinating book, and I look forward to our discussion!
