Leeds hotel recoommendations?
« on: October 25, 2008, 08:34:00 AM »
Hi!  I'm not sure if this is the best board for this post, so if not, please let me know which might be better!  I'm trying to find some hotel recommendations for Leeds.  I have one in mind (Etap in Leeds City Centre), but the reviews are really hit or miss online.  I just REALLY like their price (plus I'd seen it recommended on UKY before).  So, could anyone recommend a place in or close to Leeds City Centre?  We're going to be staying there while we look for a house, so probably a week at the very least, hence wanting it to be affordable.  It doesn't have to be the nicest place on the planet, but safe and clean are necessities.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Most of the downtown hotels are going to be pricey, because they are downtown!  :)

I wouldn't say there's a huge difference between them to be honest, unless you're talking one of the luxury places like 42 The Calls or there's a new boutique apartment-style hotel now in the old post office building on City Square.  But assuming you don't want to pay those kind of prices.  So if you've found a deal you like, why not?

You could always book yourself in & then once you get here - if you don't like it after a night or two, you can move somewhere else.  That's what my brother did when he was here about 4 years ago.  They ended up going from a city centre hotel that was right by the train station (very noisy at night - having had to leave the windows open in summer due to no A/C on a warm night) - to a B&B just a short 5-10 minute bus ride out of city centre.

Remember that people are most likely to squawk about a bad experiences than good ones.

I had similar misgivings about a hotel in Bristol based on sketchy reviews - but it turned out to be perfect for my needs.

I never did get around to giving it my thumbs up review!  :P
