I really hope they'll continue the tradition of time in the UK on non-settlement visas contributing towards citizenship requirements.  Like springhaze, changing it would set me back another year, since if it weren't for needing ILR, I could quality for citizenship in Sep 2009!
BUNAC: 9/2004 - 12/2004. Student visa: 1/2005 - 7/2005. Student visa #2: 9/2006 - 1/2008. FLR(IGS): 1/2008 - 10/2008. FLR(M): 10/2008 - 10/2010. ILR 10/2010!!

What I'm wondering is if the probationary time period is 2 years but citizenship is done in 3 years with voluntary work done, what happens at the end of the 2 years probationary time? Do you renew your probationary citizenship as is done now with the FLR -> ILR? I know they are doing away with the FLR and ILR so do you just stay in the probationary citizenship period for 3 years? Or if you decide citizenship is not for you are you kicked out after the 2 years? Ugh so confusing.

This kinda came up before some months ago but I'm really worried about the govt's requirement of volunteer work. Like would it have to be a consistent amount of time of volunteering for 2 years or a certain number of hours done or a 3 month spurt to get it over with? It just seems a lot to digest especially just getting my visa recently.

Any idea when the govt wants to implement this after it passes Parliament? Any advocacy groups against the proposed changes?

This is where I am confused to, but Garry is indicating that information will be made available on Wednesday.  Garry will do the deep dive, but I will be reading the stuff looking for this very answer.  So keep an eye out here over the next couple of weeks.

Well, they are introducing the changes in some sneaky ways so that it may or may not get heard properly.  Garry has indicated that the ILPA (and basically everybody involved) is fighting different aspect of this as well the UK-Yankee advocacy group.

We are currently working on meeting the challenges related to Monday.  The radical changes currently under consideration for Monday Reform will create a robust new approach to Monday.  I believe that the right response to Monday is one which will reflect our values, not our fears.

Did their keyboards break or are we talking more fundemental things, like RH Mrs. Jacqui Smith canning RH Mr. Woosley?

But the squabbling is about stream ownership and budgeting, rather than policy.  Strictly quotidian matters...
