Waiting for my visa...any advice for staying sane? ;)
« on: October 29, 2008, 09:20:41 PM »
I just submitted my visa application today, and the courier told me that I should find out the outcome in about a week.  It's out of my hands now, which is a relief and terrifying all at once!  I was wondering if any of you veterans have any suggestions for me as to how to get through the next week until I hear something? ;)

Stay away from the computer and UKY!  I obsessed over UKY and everything that could go wrong while I waited and it drove me mad!  Best of luck :)

I just ended my 4 weeks of waiting 2 days ago and it was HORRIBLE!! and even though you should probably find something to do and stay away from the computer you probably won't.  But just try to stay calm...I went to the gym a lot did yoga 3 times a week, and got a discount card from the local liquor store and drank my fair share of vodka...oh man.  GOOD LUCK !!!!

I just submitted my visa to the embassy on monday and the courier didn't even give me an estimate...so I am just waiting and it is nerve wracking...my advice is if you are going to be on UK yankee don't read the Visa threads lol because you will over obsess...Monday I saw a thread where someone forgot to sign their visa and I panicked thinking did I sign it...I was such a wreck I forgot I made myself a copy and I checked it and I did sign it...so stay away from these threads and just stay positive...that is all the advice I can give...that is what I am trying to do

I'm about four days behind you, waiting for documents to come from the UK. My biggest challenge in the next week: writing up an inventory and cover letter that isn't chatty and five times too long than it ought to be.

I babble when I'm nervous.

I think anyone here who has been through the wait before can agree...GET AWAY FROM THE PC AND FIND A HOBBY OUTSIDE THE HOME. I was refreshing the screen and obstinately checking my e-mail, just in case I missed something in my INBOX...or maybe it was the filters? Then you start to go through stages of panic and worry like...did I include enough information? Was I supposed to trim the excess of my passport photo if it wasn't exactly 2 in x 2 in?

I've said many times on here before, it wasn't until my friend dragged me off to go shopping one day in SC (2 hours from where I lived) that I got the e-mail. I'm certain it wouldn't have come if I had been sitting in front of the PC still.  :P UKY kept me entertained though, and I don't know honestly what I would have done without this site, Vicky & Garry's advice, and without the new friends I have made on here.

Can I suggest yoga? Just try and get out away from the PC. Keep your cell with you if you listed in on your application just incase they need to contact you with questions (happens sometimes). Just try and relax. Best of luck to you.

I was totally glued to the phone-- my case wasn't the strongest so I was fully expecting a phone call about it before anything happened.  I don't think I left the house until after 9pm or so for a week!

Thanks for the suggestions!  I think you're all right that I'll need to get out and about for a bit and not obsessively check my email like I feel compelled to do--it's going to be hard, though! ;)  I had a missed call on my cell phone today and almost had a heart attack, even though I knew it was too early for anyone to be calling me, since the courier said my app wouldn't be delivered until today.  I don't know if I was relieved or disappointed to find out that the call came from my brother.  :-\\\\

ooh of course! I know how it is  [smiley=puke.gif] I wouldn't wish it on anyone.  And I always feel bad when I read other peoples stories because I know.
