I don't really see how the girl is at fault here despite her terrible crime of being in the adult industry.  If you slept with someone (especially Russel Brand, urgh) and it was broadcast to thousands of people as well as your own grandfather I don't think you'd be too chuffed.

The fuss over this is ridiculous and OTT but at the end of the day they behaved like a pair of juvenile bullies to someone who didn't deserve it and I can see why licence payers are irritated.

I completely agree they were in the wrong and I can see how it would offend....but why is this girl now doing continuous radio interviews with different stations and news programmes.

She should say her statement once and move on.....she is turning this into her advantage by manipulation....which I think is just as underhanded as the original comment from the guys in the first place.

One of the things that frustrates me is that they keep talking about Andrew Sach's as a gentle, poor old man. He is/was an actor that worked with one of the most notorious and extreme comedians, John Cleese. It was a joke, that's it.

There have been news stories of elderly people being assaulted or robbed or other serious offenses that have received less outrage.  ???

I think this has all been blown ridiculously out of proportion.  Yes, they did wrong, but they've apologised now, end of story.  I honestly don't think it's necessary for people to resign or be sacked- comedians have done worse.

And there are some who would probably argue that Sachs' portrayal of Manuel was disrespectful of Spanish people.

PC gone amuck again.

Bottom line here is whether its 'OK' to ring up an 80 year old man and leave messages about how you've shagged his granddaughter and then to broadcast the whole thing on radio.
 :o

Clearly it's not so whoever thought it was OK to broadcast it needs to be disciplined or sacked and Ross and Brand should have been fined or disciplined and that should be an end to it. The ongoing coverage on the news is ridiculous though, far more important things going on so the media needs to get over this.

As far as the granddaughter is concerned ...I'd quite like to see her burlesque act  ;)

The offensive thing to me was the "maybe you should kill yourself" comment.

I think this should be looked at internally at the BBC, but I don't need to hear about it anymore.

Some people will think it's funny, others will think it's silly, and others will be disgusted. Isn't that the same as with publicly-funded art? Publicly-funded architecture? You can't please everyone.

Nicely put, Chary.  Couldn't have said it any better.   :)

I didn't see that on the transcript I just read, but the whole thing was ridiculous and made very little sense... were they drunk or something??  Anyway, it has been blown way out of proportion.  I am sure they have learned something from it, so why not move on?

Me, too.  It didn't seem that bad to me.  Mostly just two guys acting like morons to get a laugh.  Brand set up the granddaughter joke, Ross made the joke, and then they spent 10 or 12 minutes trying but failing - on purpose to get a laugh - to make it right.

It's arguable whether it's funny or not, but it's definitely not worth all the wailing and gnashing of teeth that's resulted.

....and it's REALLY BLOODY FUNNY!!!!!!

 ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

And nowhere near as bad as everyone is making out.  The 'killing yourself' comment can hardly be made out, It's very silly, and close to the mark, but really not worth all this song and dance!

So very very silly and so very very British.  I like the fact that there were all of 2 complaints until the story was broken by a newspaper trying to stir the pot.  Then there are 18,000 complaints.

In the States, someone gets fired for calling a pre-dominatly black female basketball team a bunch of "nappy headed ho's" in the UK it is suggesting that someone might kill themselves for finding out that a prat slept with their grand daughter.

Truthfully, I think the whole thing is outrageous.  I listen to the Russel Brand show-not willingly, the 18 year old is a huge fan.  And it's always very silly and border line offensive.  That's his humour/appeal.
This girl is just milking the publicity in my opinion.  I read where she was saying that she was humiliated that her grandfather had found out she'd slept with Russel Brand.  You know what?  If you don't want your grandfather to find out that you've slept with someone notoriously sleazy then DON'T sleep with them in the first place.  She's a grown up.  She should take some responsibility for her own actions here
Should they have done it?  Probably not.  Should they have apologized? Yes.  Was the Daily Mail and the Sun right to whip up a frenzy of complaints?  No. Did the BBC over react  to the Daily Mail's witch hunt?  Absolutely.
