Switch on Storage Heater
« on: October 30, 2008, 10:47:44 PM »
OK, I have a hopefully easy question.  My bedroom has a storage heater with a timer.  I know how to operate the timer.  However, it has an unmarked dial (which I assume is for output) as well as a unlabeled toggle switch.  I have no clue what this switch does.  The only hint to its use are the two ends of the switch: one side has a single dot, while the other side has two dots.  That's it.  Anyone who gets it right, I'll cook some Southern food* for (but they'll have to come to Glasgow to get it).

Are you certain it is a storage heater?   From the description of the timer and controls it sounds more like a regular radiator configuration, some of which have an integral timer so you can have them turn on and off when you want.  Storage heaters are normally timed from the main controls at the distribution panel.   Any chance of a picture to confirm?

If this is a radiator-type heater, then the rotary control is the output adjustment as you surmise, often a thermostat.  The switch with the dots will be the power level selector: One dot for low heat, two dots for high heat.

You're right, it is a radiator heater.  I had searched for some kind of user manual online the other day (to no avail), but did find the particular model.  I just double checked there and it is a radiator heater, not a storage heater.
