Spouse Visa Issued!!!
« on: November 04, 2008, 09:50:35 PM »
Yay!!!  I received an email today from the LA Consulate that my visa was issued with a tracking number.  After hearing a lot about delays and people waiting nearly a month, I was a bit afraid that it'd take forever, but the timeline went by very quickly.

I was so much more nervous when applying for the marriage visit visa in June and I felt very prepared for this one and much, much more calm.

Timeline in case anyone is interested:

10/14- Online Visa application completed
10/21- Biometrics Appointment
10/21- Supporting docs shipped overnight to LA Consulate
10/27- Email from Consulate stating they'd received the docs
10/29- Phone call from Consulate asking travel date
11/4-  Email stating visa has been issued  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Congratulations!  Out of curiosity, had you not mentioned your travel date on your application anywhere?  It seems like I recall that it was one of the questions-- weird that they'd make a phone call to ask something already answered!

10/14/08: Biometrics done (as a walk-in a day early)
10/15/08: Visa application package sent to courier overnight
10/16/08: Application received by courier and delivered to Chicago consulate
10/20/08: Called courier to ask about delays, told it was approved!!
10/21/08: Visa in hand.  Date issued 10/18/08
11/19/08: Flight to Leeds!
3/18/14: Checking service appointment for naturalisation
4/19/14: Naturalisation approved
5/15/14: Citizenship ceremony

I also used the L.A. office. I fed exed my package to them. It was supposed to arrive yesterday. They did not send me an email saying they received it. Do they normally do that?

Also, I did not see the question of travel date when i did my application.

Sounds like yours was pretty quick. I hope mine goes through that quickly:)

Congratulations!!! Do you have to have your travel date (i.e. plane ticket purchased) before applying?

You shouldn't book your flight before the visa is issued.

It is a question on the application, but I've heard of them calling to confirm from other people.

I agree that you shouldn't book the flight before the visa is issued (I followed that advice last time and was really glad I did), however, since my husband had to be back at work in the UK, we did book round trip tickets to the US.  We would have just paid to change my ticket if the visa took longer.

smocha, when I applied for the marriage visit visa, I got an email from them the day after they received the package saying they'd opened it and were beginning processing it, but this time it was almost a week later.  Sometimes you won't hear anything from them until they approve the visa.  It seems that the majority of the consulates are pretty inconsistent on how often/when they contact you.

Ugh, I am just so excited that I'll be able to work now.  I can't wait to get a job!

congrats, i just got mine too, so i can imagine the big relief!!!

Yay!!  Congratulations!  How long did yours take?
